Wolverine’s Going To Get His Butt Out In Insomniac’s New Game

Wolverine’s Going To Get His Butt Out In Insomniac’s New Game

BREAKING NEWS: We’re probably going to see Wolverine’s bottom in Marvel’s Wolverine when it releases on PS5 September 15. As spotted by MP1st, according to the ESRB content description, which assigns Wolverine a Mature 17+ rating, we shall all have the pleasure of “a character’s exposed buttocks.”

It’s been made extremely clear that Insomniac’s approach to Wolverine is very different from that of the studio’s Spider-Man series, with its first trailer back in June proving extraordinarily violent. Since then we’ve seen the adamantium-infused antihero kicking ass in a far less gory teaser, leading to some backlash about Logan’s weird-looking face. But soon we shall be turning our attention to how he appears at the other end of the eating process, with the ESRB revealing that among the violence, blood, cursing and drug-references, we will also see “a handful of sequences briefly depict[ing] a character’s exposed buttocks.”

The assumption is that this character will be Wolverine, given it’d be rather odd for it to be anyone else, really. Jean Gray getting her bum out would be a weird choice, and Logan does seem the sort to nonchalantly—gruffly even—walk around his hovel with both sets of hairy cheeks on display for all to see. Here’s the full ESRB description:

Marvel’s Wolverine is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, and Strong Language. Also includes In-Game Purchases. This is an action game in which players assume the role of James Logan/Wolverine, as he reunites with Team X to stop a dangerous threat. From a third-person perspective, players use melee attacks and special skills to kill enemy soldiers and robots in frenetic combat. Players use their claws to slash, stab, and slice enemies; rage modes allow players to enact faster, more destructive combos and slow-motion finishers (e.g., dramatically stabbing an enemy in the head). Combat is highlighted by frequent blood-splatter effects, screams of pain, and dismemberment/decapitation. Battlefields are sometimes strewn with torsos and limbs; cutscenes can also depict blood and gore (e.g., characters tearing enemies apart, decapitating enemy soldiers). A handful of sequences briefly depict a character’s exposed buttocks. The dialogue references drugs (e.g., “It doubled my production of fentanyl.”). The words “f**k” and “sh*t” appear in the game.

This is, of course, not the first time the X-Man has revealed his rear. Hugh Jackman’s ass was shown in X-Men: Days of Future Past (thanks Polygon), and Deadpool is completely obsessed with his buddy’s posterior. So it’s good to know that Insomniac looks likely to continue this tradition. The question is, just how hairy will it be? Will they be cowards and go for a shiny, polished rear, or be true to the hirsute character’s true nature and let his freak fur fly?
