Highlights
- Lava Lash, the only RP realm in WoW Classic Season of Discovery, is now locked due to low population.
- Fans are frustrated with the server closure, facing penalties like character name changes when transferring.
- This issue affects global players, with EU servers Chaos Bolt and Lava Lash also closing recently.
World of Warcraft Classic just locked Lava Lash, it’s only normal roleplaying realm in Season of Discovery. With this change, there are no longer any pure RP servers available for new World of Warcraft Classic players to join in Season of Discovery.
Traditionally, World of Warcraft has four types of realms that fans can join: Normal, RP, PvP, and RP-PvP. Each server is classified based on whether WoW characters are automatically flagged for world PvP, and whether players are encouraged to engage with others in-character and follow community roleplaying courtesies.
WoW SoD: All Darkmoon Cards & How to Get Them
If you want to power up your build in WoW SoD, you should learn how to get Darkmoon Cards. Here’s a list of all of them.
However, one of these types of realms has effectively been destroyed in World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery. In a recent forum post, WoW developer Fwoibles announced that Lava Lash, the only RP server in Season of Discovery, had a population below what World of Warcraft wanted it to be. As such, the realm has been locked to new accounts, meaning only players with characters on the server already can make new ones there. Fans can transfer their characters from Lava Lash to Wild Growth or Crusader Strike for free, or continue to play on Lava Lash, but its population will gradually dwindle over time.

The loss of Lava Lash is made worse by the fact that Chaos Bolt, another RP-PvP server in World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery, only recently closed down. Lava Lash was one of the realms Chaos Bolt characters were able to transfer to, meaning players who just settled in from one transfer may have to do so again almost immediately.
Needless to say, World of Warcraft fans are not happy about this decision. Transferring realms brings several annoying penalties and restrictions with it, including gold limits based on character level, a complete wipe of the friends and ignore list, and a removal of guild affiliations. What’s worse, if a character’s name is already taken on their new server, fans are forced to change it – a consequence that is especially brutal for roleplayers in World of Warcraft, who are even more likely to be attached to the rare names they were able to claim shortly after the servers first opened.
This population problem in World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery has affected other regions outside the US as well. Last week, World of Warcraft announced the closure of the EU versions of both Chaos Bolt and Lava Lash, putting them in the same predicament as their Western counterparts. Hopefully, World of Warcraft Classic fans across the globe can acclimate to this tumult, and Season of Discovery players can keep playing without fear of their realms being locked down.
