Rumors of a World of Warcraft console version have returned once again, this time after a new age classification for the game surfaced in Brazil. The listing has quickly renewed speculation that World of Warcraft could finally expand beyond desktop platforms.
Talk of prospective console ports has followed Blizzard’s hit MMORPG, which turns 22 on November 23, for years. In recent history, the discussion intensified after Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard in 2023, when one of the developers confirmed that WoW console ports were still a frequent internal topic at the time.
World of Warcraft: Forever Rating Lists Multiple Consoles
The newest round of speculation comes from Brazil’s Ministry of Justice, whose public classification portal recorded World of Warcraft: Forever with a 14+ rating and a September 28 publication date in the country’s official gazette. The entry initially named a wide variety of consoles, including three generations of PlayStation hardware, the Nintendo Switch, and the latest two Xbox generations. That platform field has since been changed to list only personal computers, substantially weakening the console interpretation. The gazette publication is still meaningful because ordinary International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) self-classifications do not require that treatment. That would indicate that this was a genuine Ministry classification ahead of World of Warcraft: Forever‘s November 2026 release rather than a routine storefront rating.
Blizzard Has Kept the Door Open to Console WoW
Feasible or Not, WoW Console Ports Have Been on the Devs’ Minds for Years
The Brazilian classification may be shaky evidence, but Blizzard has never fully dismissed the broader idea of bringing its genre-defining hit to consoles. Company executives were still sending mixed signals about a possible WoW console release in April 2024, and Forever is already confirmed to be clearing a major porting hurdle by adding native gamepad support. Blizzard officials later said the feature suited Forever‘s slower combat style that works well with controllers, while declining to comment on its potential to pave the way for console ports.
Given its highly mature state on Windows and macOS desktops, consoles have long looked like one of World of Warcraft‘s clearest potential growth opportunities. More recently, Microsoft’s ownership made Xbox an especially natural platform to consider. None of that establishes that a port is currently in production, but it does underscore the clear strategic rationale for Blizzard to explore additional platforms in 2026 as a way to reach new players.
Looking more broadly, Brazilian age ratings have a history of leaking unannounced games. One recent example is Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, a remake of EA’s original tower defense game that was leaked in July 2025, days before its official announcement. However, such listings are not always accurate. World of Warcraft itself was the subject of one such case in July 2020, when a Brazilian rating listed an Xbox Series X version of the hit MMO. Blizzard later clarified that no such port existed and said the console listing had been added in error.
