World of Warcraft Players Are Missing Gold Rewards in Patch 12.0.1

World of Warcraft players are currently missing some gold as a reward in the Midnight Pre-Patch, as a bug has affected the reward lists for some World Quests throughout specific zones. The latest World of Warcraft bug was discovered shortly after the second Midnight pre-expansion patch went live.

On February 10, World of Warcraft released a patch focused on class balance changes ahead of Midnight’s March 2 launch. Most of World of Warcraft’s classes and specializations, including the Unholy Death Knight and the new Devourer Demon Hunter, received some additional tuning in the February 10 update. World of Warcraft‘s latest content patch also brought some changes to the game’s login screen, as Midnight’s main theme was added to the game along with a portal that shows the Blood Elves’ capital of Silvermoon City. Players will explore the revamped Silvermoon City once Midnight arrives in a few weeks.

World of Warcraft Players Are Getting Short-Changed

Although the Midnight pre-launch event received mixed responses from World of Warcraft fans, some players remained diligent in their preparations for the upcoming adventure into Quel’thalas. However, a recent bug in World of Warcraft resulted in missing gold rewards from World Quests. The affected World Quests are located throughout zones featured in The War Within expansion, such as the Isle of Dorn and K’aresh, along with zones from Dragonflight, including the Waking Shores and the Ohn’ahran Plains. When scrolling over the affected World Quests on the map, the reward list currently shows a blank space where a gold reward would go, indicating that this is not an intended part of the latest content patch. However, other rewards, such as Valorstones, Resonance Crystals, and pieces of gear, can still be obtained normally via World Quests throughout the affected zones.

As of this writing, Blizzard has not commented on the missing gold bug, so it remains to be seen when the developers will fully address it. However, World of Warcraft players looking to earn gold through World Quests have a few workarounds until a fix has been pushed to live servers. World Quests in older expansions, including Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands, are currently not affected by the gold bug. Additionally, weekly World Quests, such as world bosses and quests that require completing other World Quests and objectives first, still reward gold as of this writing. Such weekly objective-based World Quests can be found in Siren Isle and other endgame zones throughout The War Within expansion. Along with the evergreen method of selling items at the auction house, WoW players looking to earn some money ahead of Midnight still have some alternatives to take.

Midnight Will Provide Several Ways to Earn Gold

Despite the ongoing issue with World of Warcraft‘s missing gold rewards, players can still participate in a limited-time event to earn some rare collectibles. World of Warcraft‘s annual Love Is in the Air event, based on the real-world Valentine’s Day, is taking place throughout Azeroth until February 23. Players can earn some thematic cosmetics, including rare mounts like the X-45 Heartbreaker and the Spring Butterfly, while the event is live. Additionally, the necklaces that players can earn from defeating The Crown Chemical Company can be sold to vendors for small amounts of gold.

Additionally, the Midnight expansion’s early access window starts on February 26 for World of Warcraft players who pre-purchase Midnight‘s Epic Edition. Although the Epic Edition costs $90, players will also get 30 days of World of Warcraft game time and some thematic Light and Void cosmetics with their purchase. With Midnight slated to launch several forms of content throughout 2026, World of Warcraft players will have various ways to earn some gold and other currencies. However, time will tell when Blizzard will fully address the ongoing issues players have with earning gold in the current content.
