World of Warcraft’s Succubus is Officially Making a Comeback

Some World of Warcraft players are being affected by a massive change in Curse of Ula’tek. World of Warcraft players are enjoying the new WoW: Forever beta, and Blizzard itself seems to be confirming that it’s a huge success, to the point that the company had to improve its servers just to allow everyone to log into the game. Much like WoW Classic and modern World of Warcraft, the game will keep getting new updates, but this time, it won’t increase the level cap or bring back existing expansions.

At BlizzCon, World of Warcraft got reveals for Midnight Eclipse and The Last Titan, showing that Blizzard has the Worldsoul saga basically wrapped up. Although WoW: Forever‘s success is making fans want some of its features for the retail version of the game, Blizzard has already confirmed that the Skyborne elves are not coming to World of Warcraft in the immediate future, if ever, nor is the new two-name system. World of Warcraft players will have to wait for new releases in patch 12.1.5, and even with the upcoming class changes, one class has been affected more than others by Curse of Ula’tek.

World of Warcraft Class Tuning Update Includes More Big Buffs and Nerfs

World of Warcraft announces that some of the game’s classes and specializations will receive some balance tuning during the next server reset.

World of Warcraft’s Succubus and Felhunter Are Officially Making a Comeback

With the class changes in World of Warcraft‘s Curse of Ula’tek patch, Demonology Warlocks’ best demon pet is no longer the Felguard, but instead it’s either the Succubus for raw damage or the Felhunter for faster kicks (interrupts) and general utility. In patch 12.1, the Warlock’s minions got numeric updates that gave around 350% more damage to the Succubus and Felhunter, but only 20% to the Felguard. Not only that, but players are choosing to forgo the Felguard, whose damage is now lower than the Succubus (between 0.6% and 2%) and the Felhunter, to optimize their builds. Not picking the Felguard node on the tree allows Warlocks to get both Practiced Rituals (2% increased Mastery) and Dreadlash (improved Dreadstalkers), which further improves the build.

Since the 2% increased Mastery from Practiced Rituals increases the overall DPS for Demonology Warlock, between the lower damage of Felguard vs. the Succubus and reduced utility compared to Felhunter, players are no longer picking up the node at all. Ever since its introduction in WoW‘s The Burning Crusade, the Felguard has been one of the spec-defining parts of Demonology, even when the spec was changing, such as becoming the ultimate summoner in Legion. This is the first time in World of Warcraft‘s history that speccing Felguard may get players kicked from high-end content.

Those who like playing a Warlock in World of Warcraft are used to specs going through some drastic changes. Affliction is often either very good or rather poor in terms of performance, and some core aspects of Devastation keep changing over time. However, the Felguard has been a historical staple for Demonology, and it can be strange to think it’s no longer one of the best options.

Even when WoW Season of Discovery brought back Metamorphosis, Felguard was still there as a core part of the spec. And now that the game is getting a new balance pass for classes and specs, Felguard is still off the menu and may be for the remainder of this patch – or even until The Last Titan.
