Wuhu Island is Finally Coming Back in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort

Wuhu Island is Finally Coming Back in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort

Wuhu Island, the fan favorite tropical resort featured in games like Wii Fit and most famously Wii Sports Resort, will be the setting of the upcoming Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort was officially announced at the latest Nintendo Direct event, giving Switch 2 owners the chance to look forward to a Wii Sports Resort spiritual successor later this year.

The original Nintendo Switch Sports was a smash hit, proving that there is still an appetite for Wii Sports-style games. In the past few weeks, rumors have been swirling that Nintendo would be releasing a Switch 2 Edition of Nintendo Switch Sports, but at the latest Nintendo Direct event, it was confirmed that the project is actually a lot more substantial than initially believed. Instead of simply releasing a native version of Nintendo Switch Sports on Switch 2, Nintendo is instead releasing a full-blown sequel that is named after Wii Sports‘ sequel, Wii Sports Resort.

It’s Official: The Next Nintendo Direct Event is Confirmed for June 30

A Nintendo Direct just wrapped, but Nintendo announces a new presentation, and fans don’t have to wait long to see what’s in store.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Trailer and Sports List

  • Archery
  • Basketball
  • Bowling
  • Golf
  • Jump Rope
  • Power Cruising
  • Prop Plane
  • Skateboarding
  • Table Tennis
  • Tennis
  • Thumb Wrestling
  • Volleyball

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort will feature 12 sports, with the trailer confirming archery, basketball, bowling, boxing, golf, jump rope, power cruising, prop plane, skateboarding, table tennis, tennis, thumb wrestling, and volleyball. All the sports in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort take advantage of the Joy-Con 2’s motion control capabilities in various ways, and each should offer a unique experience. Like in Wii Sports Resort, all the action takes place on Wuhu Island, which many fans will no doubt be happy to see make a comeback when Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches on October 22.

Players will be able to compete in all these sports using their Nintendo Switch Sports Resort avatars, known as Sportsmates, as well as Miis. Character customization was a big focus in the original game, and it will almost certainly be one in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort as well. More details on that, and other potential features, should come to light in the months ahead as we get closer to the game’s release date.

Based on what’s been shown so far, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort looks like it will be a worthy successor to Wii Sports Resort and the OG Nintendo Switch Sports. While mini-game collections like this don’t always get everyone’s blood pumping, there are those that have fond memories of Wii Sports Resort and Wuhu Island and will no doubt be happy to see it fully realized in HD in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort.

And it’s not like there won’t be core Switch 2 games released this holiday season. The last announcement at the Nintendo Direct was the reveal that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is coming to Switch 2 later this year. That trailer didn’t include any gameplay, but fans can expect a spruced-up version of the Nintendo 64 classic. The Ocarina of Time remake was leaked as part of the same leak that revealed Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. Now that both projects have been announced, future Nintendo Direct events will be a lot harder to predict.
