Wuthering Waves Fans Sound Off on the New Update and Optimization

The latest update for Kuro Games’s Wuthering Waves is drawing strong praise from fans for its quests and presentation. But alongside the plaudits, a growing chorus of players is bemoaning its reportedly poor optimization, calling for the Wuthering Waves developer to do better.

The latest major Wuthering Waves update rolled out on February 4. Dubbed “For You Who Walk in Snow” and designated as version 3.1, the patch introduced new story content, events, and a wide variety of quality-of-life tweaks, among other novelties. Five days into its release, the fan sentiment surrounding the update is broadly positive, at least as far as content impressions go. However, a growing number of fans have been scrutinizing the update’s technical side as of late, with most of them not thrilled with their findings.

Wuthering Waves Players Criticize 3.1 Performance

In the days following the release of version 3.1, thousands of players have flocked to social media to criticize the update’s performance impact, stating that it has further strained the RPG’s already suspect technical state. Beyond frame-rate drops and visual glitches, some players are also reporting deeper technical issues, suggesting the patch has fundamentally broken Wuthering Waves‘ graphics settings, which—contrary to all intuition—no longer appear to have a material impact on performance. “No matter which settings I use, even the lowest, FPS is not increasing at all,” one frustrated player wrote on Reddit.

Startorch Academy Is Reportedly the Single Biggest Pain Point in Wuthering Waves 3.1

The current crop of performance complaints is aimed at all versions of the free-to-play RPG: PC, PS5, and mobile. The Startorch Academy introduced in Wuthering Waves‘ 3.0 update is reportedly the single biggest pain point following the new patch, with some players saying frame rates drop by as much as half in that location. This includes everyone from PlayStation and mobile gamers to desktop users playing Wuthering Waves on nominally overkill machines. Of the social media posts reviewed by GameRant that reference Startorch Academy performance issues, PS5 users account for a disproportionate share.

Technical issues notwithstanding, the Version 3.1 update has been broadly welcomed for its scope, led by the introduction of a new Wuthering Waves region called Roya Frostlands. The snow-covered province arrives alongside fresh main story content, some of which has elicited fan plaudits for being lore-dense and compellingly emotional. Players have also praised the patch’s emphasis on quality-of-life improvements. Chief among them is a rebalanced leveling curve intended to reduce progression friction for both new and returning players, as well as adjustments designed to streamline routine farming activities.

On mobile platforms, Version 3.1 introduces a Joystick Control option that provides an alternative, single-stick method for operating the in-game motorbike, a change that has been welcomed by players who previously found vehicle controls cumbersome on touchscreens. Together, these additions have helped position the update as one of the game’s most content-rich releases to date, even as ongoing performance and optimization concerns continue to temper broader community sentiment.
