Xbox App Is Spamming Notifications Today For Some Reason

Xbox App Is Spamming Notifications Today For Some Reason

If you have the Xbox mobile app and you have notifications enabled, your phone may be blowing up today. Many people, including editors here at GameSpot, have received numerous “test” notifications from the Xbox app today, February 25.

The message states, “Mobile Test Message” as the header, with text that reads, “This is a dummy message sent via braze, please capture a screenshot once you receive it. This should take you to the recently added gallery.”

Braze is the name of an AI-powered customer-engagement platform, so it seems Microsoft is working with this outfit on its mobile notifications. Obviously, this kind of spamming was not supposed to happen, as evidenced by the repeated notifications and the text of the messages.

Xbox Support confirmed the “errant messaging” and said Microsoft’s engineering teams are “working to identify the underlying cause of these notifications.”

In another post, Xbox wrote, “The Xbox App got a little too enthusiastic with test notifications today. That’s on us, but it’s resolved now. Thanks for understanding, and we apologize for flooding your notifications.”

It’s been a busy week for Xbox, as the company now has a new top boss, Asha Sharma, who takes over for longtime leader Phil Spencer. Additionally, Xbox president Sarah Bond is out, while Matt Booty got a promotion to become chief content officer.

Sharma comes from an AI background, but she has promised “no soulless AI slop.” Booty, for his part, said Microsoft is committed to “art made by people,” but also, the company uses generative AI to make art without humans.
