Abyssus is now available on Xbox Game Pass, joining as a day-one addition to its console catalog and another title for its PC library. This is the 16th game to reach the service in June 2026 and the 108th Xbox Game Pass release since the beginning of the year.

Developed by Sweden-based DoubleMoose Games, Abyssus is a roguelite first-person shooter set in a sunken civilization filled with deadly denizens. In addition to firearms, players can wield various magical spells, including elemental attacks, as they explore its procedurally generated levels either solo or in teams of up to four. That combo of gunplay, magic, and nautical worldbuilding makes Abyssus an example of the so-called “brinepunk” genre, a seafaring take on steampunk.

‘Slop Out Mediocre Content Like A Factory’ Ori Director Criticizes Xbox Game Pass Strategy

A senior Moon Studios official identifies several issues with Microsoft’s content strategy, insisting that the Game Pass model ‘could’ve worked.’

Abyssus Lands on Xbox Game Pass Alongside Console Debut

Originally released as a PC exclusive in August 2025, Abyssus has landed on consoles and Xbox Game Pass on June 25, 2026. The roguelite FPS is available on three tiers of Microsoft’s service: Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass. It marks the second title from publisher The Arcade Crew to reach the platform in 2026, after roguelite puzzler Drop Duchy landed on Xbox Game Pass in January.

What the Critics Are Saying About Abyssus

Abyssus received largely positive reviews at launch, reflected in its “Fair” rating on OpenCritic, with an average score of 72 and more than one in two critics recommending it on average. It was primarily praised for its setting and core gameplay, though some reviewers took issue with its weapon variety, or lack thereof. Over on Steam, Abyssus has nearly 3,000 “Very Positive” user reviews as of late June 2026.

Abyssus adds to Xbox Game Pass’ ever-evolving co-op library, but it is also fully playable solo. Its console and Xbox Game Pass launch coincides with the 1.3 update, a free content drop that introduces new enemy mobs, bosses, areas, and blessings, among other novelties. It also streamlines matchmaking, including through a new quickplay option.
