Xbox Game Pass Adds Magical-Looking Day-One Game

Narrative-driven adventure game Mixtape is now available on select Xbox Game Pass tiers. Its arrival marks the 25th day-one title to join the subscription service in 2026 and the 76th overall Xbox Game Pass release since the beginning of the year.

Developed by Melbourne-based studio Beethoven and Dinosaur and published by Annapurna Interactive, Mixtape is an interactive coming-of-age story set in early-1990s Northern California. It follows three teenagers on the final night of high school before their lives diverge. The story unfolds as a series of vignette-style memories triggered by songs on a carefully assembled playlist. Mixtape is Beethoven and Dinosaur’s second Xbox Game Pass title after The Artful Escape, a 2021 musical adventure and the recipient of 2022’s BAFTA Games Award for Artistic Achievement.

Today is an extremely eventful day for Xbox Game Pass, with two new titles and three expanded releases happening all at once.

Mixtape Joins Two Xbox Game Pass Tiers on Day One

Mixtape released internationally for PC and consoles on May 7 at 9 a.m. ET. As previously announced, the magical-looking adventure joined Microsoft’s subscription service on day one, debuting as part of the PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate libraries. The Premium tier is unlikely to receive Mixtape before late 2026 at the earliest, judging by how long day-one releases have historically taken to trickle down since the middle tier of the service was first introduced in September 2024.

Mixtape is one of the final Xbox Game Pass titles that received a personal endorsement from Phil Spencer. In June 2025, the now-former Microsoft Gaming CEO praised Beethoven and Dinosaur for “nailing” the game’s soundtrack, while also complimenting publisher Annapurna Interactive for its years of support for Xbox Game Pass. Spencer retired in February 2026 and was replaced by Asha Sharma, previously president of Microsoft’s CoreAI Product division.

Mixtape is the fourth new title to join Microsoft’s ever-expanding content library in May 2026, after Final Fantasy 5, Ben 10: Power Trip, and Wildgate. Looking ahead, cozy co-op game base-builder Outbound is scheduled to arrive on May 11, followed by infernal roguelite deckbuilder Black Jacket and Lovecraftian adventure Call of the Elder Gods a day later. Xbox Game Pass is then set to lose five games and add two others over the two-day period beginning May 14.

The lineup for the second half of the month will kick off with the day-one release of Forza Horizon 6 on May 19. That is also the most likely date on which the Wave 2 roadmap for May 2026 will be officially confirmed, based on catalog announcement patterns over the past several years.
