Xbox Game Pass has added Luna Abyss to its ever-growing content catalog. The FPS is the 13th new title to join the subscription service in May 2026 and the 85th Xbox Game Pass release since the turn of the year.
Made by Kwalee, a British developer-publisher that recently made waves with the GTA-style cop game The Precinct, Luna Abyss is a modern example of a fading genre: the single-player first-person shooter. The game is set within a crumbling alien megastructure, where a lone prisoner is sentenced to scavenge underground ruins in search of ancient technologies and answers about the fall of the civilization that once inhabited them. Its sci-fi narrative is paired with fast-paced action built around shootouts and platforming.
Xbox Game Pass Adds Highest-Rated Game of 2026
The highest-rated game of 2026 so far is now available on Xbox Game Pass, having debuted on two tiers of the subscription service.
Luna Abyss Lands on Xbox Game Pass with Positive Reviews
Luna Abyss has officially launched for the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on May 21 at 9 a.m. ET. The sci-fi FPS has also joined Microsoft’s subscription service on day one and is thus already available to PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. The original Luna Abyss demo from July 2023 that amassed “Very Positive” reviews on Steam is still available to try as of this writing. Meanwhile, the game itself launched to comparable reviews, as reflected in its “Strong” rating on OpenCritic, based on an average score of 78 and an 85% recommendation rate.
Delving into the actual contents of the Luna Abyss reviews tracked by OpenCritic, critics appear to regard the game as a stylish, compact, and narratively distinctive experience whose atmosphere and boss encounters help offset somewhat uneven moment-to-moment shooting. The current consensus frames it less as a genre benchmark than as a confident, memorable indie shooter whose oppressive prison-moon setting gives it a strong sense of place.
