Xbox has confirmed that the retro-style game Mad King Redemption will join the Game Pass subscription on September 23. Xbox Game Pass recently also revealed the first wave of titles coming to the service in the first half of September, which includes interesting names like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Mad King Redemption will be part of Xbox Game Pass’ second wave for September, which already has some other confirmed games. One day before Mad King Redemption is added, Game Pass subscribers will be able to access Dune: Awakening and Well Dweller on the Ultimate and PC tiers.
Mad King Redemption Joins Xbox Game Pass’ September Lineup
Announced via a short trailer, Mad King Redemption is coming to Xbox Game Pass Premium and Ultimate on September 23. The game has been playable on PC since May 2026 through an early-access program, while its Xbox console edition was released in August. In terms of gameplay, Mad King Redemption is a retro-style beat ’em up and roguelike inspired by classic fantasy arcade games like Golden Axe. It features side-scrolling action and supports local, split-screen co-op play.

In Mad King Redemption, players take on the role of heroes with different classes and abilities. There are also four playable characters, each with their own unique combat style and moves. Options range from melee-focused fighters to mages who can deal damage from afar. Since its progression is inspired by roguelite games, each run in Mad King Redemption allows players to enhance their builds, try out new abilities and power-ups, and explore more of the world.
Developer Secret Mission says, “We’ve crafted a beat ’em up experience that combines old-school controls and retro feelings with innovative 3D mechanics.” Mad King Redemption was made by a very small team of indie developers, but it has managed to capture the attention of fans who have a thing for classic brawler games. In terms of player reception, Mad King Redemption has an overall user review score of 84% positive on Steam at the time of writing.

October’s Xbox Game Pass lineup will likely be dominated by Gears of War: E-Day. However, a recent leak has also teased that Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse might be coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch, which is currently set for October 15. It is also worth noting that Xbox might add more titles to the subscription’s September lineup, as the second wave is yet to be finalized. So far, with the addition of Mad King Redemption, the second half of September has five confirmed Game Pass titles, with the other four being RuneScape: Dragonwilds (Sep 15), Dune: Awakening (Sep 22), Well Dweller (Sep 22), and Minecraft Dungeons 2 (Sep 29).
