Xbox Game Pass Is Losing Some of Its Best RPGs on May 31

Xbox Game Pass is losing five titles on May 31, 2026. The upcoming catalog rotation includes several critically acclaimed Atlus titles that will deal a major blow to the Xbox Game Pass library of high-quality RPGs.

The late May departure wave includes Persona 4 Golden, an enhanced edition of the award-winning JRPG that was added to Xbox Game Pass in August 2025. That event marked the start of its second stint on the service, as Atlus’s iconic game was previously available to Microsoft’s subscribers between January 2023 and January 2024.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Subscribers Have More Perks to Claim for May 2026

Xbox Game Pass subscribers have new perks to claim, ranging from refreshed monthly offerings to brand-new rewards for May 2026.

This time around, Persona 4 Golden is not going to make it a full year, having just been confirmed as departing Xbox Game Pass at the end of May 2026, nine months since returning to the service. The May 31 departures also include another Atlus title in the form of the critically acclaimed Metaphor: ReFantazio. The fantasy JRPG with Persona-like social mechanics and one of 2024’s highest-rated games originally debuted on Xbox Game Pass in May 2025. It joined Microsoft’s content catalog on the same day as Spray Paint Simulator, which is now also scheduled to leave the service on May 31.

Colorful afterlife metroidvania Crypt Custodian and dark fantasy city builder Against the Storm round out the May 31 removal list. Crypt Custodian is set to leave three days before its first anniversary on the service, while Against the Storm is due to depart after nearly two and a half years. Spray Paint Simulator and Crypt Custodian are the only titles from the upcoming rotation likely to be of particular interest to achievement hunters, as both can be comfortably completed before they leave Xbox Game Pass. The rest are much larger games that require a significant time commitment even for a standard playthrough, let alone a full achievement completionist run.

Another Persona 4 Version Is Coming to Xbox Game Pass—Eventually

JRPG fans who still have not gotten around to playing Persona 4 Golden through Xbox Game Pass may be running out of time, but they are already confirmed to have at least one more chance to experience Atlus’s iconic RPG, or something close to it; Persona 4 Revival has already been confirmed as a day-one Xbox Game Pass release, though it still does not have a firm launch date. With the remake originally announced during the June 2025 Xbox Games Showcase and another such showcase scheduled for June 7, 2026, the project may be close to receiving a concrete launch window or release date.

In more immediate catalog news, Escape Simulator is coming to Xbox Game Pass on May 26, followed by Echo Generation 2 and The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition on May 27. The month’s final two additions are both day-one releases scheduled for May 28: bug-collecting game Kabuto Park and party driving title Crashout Crew.
