Microsoft has officially pulled back the curtain on the first half of Xbox Game Pass additions for the current month. This fresh collection includes more than a dozen titles that span multiple genres and play styles. Subscribers are getting a mix of high-speed racing, brutal action, and quiet storytelling. The platform is clearly trying to maintain its momentum by providing a high volume of content for Xbox Game Pass members to dive into right away.
The announcement follows some significant changes in how the company manages its subscription business. Under the leadership of the new Xbox chief, Asha Sharma, Xbox Game Pass has seen a noticeable price drop, with Ultimate now costing $22.99 per month. This move aims to make the plan more inviting as the brand transitions away from the era of Phil Spencer. Additionally, Microsoft has updated its policy regarding Call of Duty, confirming that these massive shooters will now wait a full year before landing on the service rather than launching on day one.

The undisputed leader of the May Xbox Game Pass pack is Forza Horizon 6, which is speeding into the library on May 19 as a day-one arrival. This latest entry takes the festival to Japan, offering a massive open world with over 550 vehicles to master. Close behind is the arrival of DOOM: The Dark Ages on May 14, a game already on Game Pass that is moving to the Premium tier. The prequel explores the medieval roots of the Slayer’s unending fury. On that same day, players can also dive into the Subnautica 2 game preview, which takes the underwater survival loop to a completely new alien planet with four-player cooperative support. These major additions are expected to take up a lot of drive space, but the variety of settings—from neon Japanese streets to dark gothic battlefields—ensures there is something for every type of player.

Beyond the giant blockbusters, the service is also leaning heavily into artistic and cozy experiences. On May 7, the nostalgic journey Mixtape arrives, following a group of friends through their teenage years with a soundtrack and vibe inspired by coming-of-age cinema. This is followed on May 11 by Outbound, a relaxing title that lets players live off-grid in a customizable van that acts as a mobile home. The supernatural also gets some love on May 12 with Call of the Elder Gods, a puzzle-heavy sequel to the Lovecraftian adventure Call of the Sea. For those who prefer a darker tone, Black Jacket also drops on that day, offering a high-stakes, painterly version of blackjack set in a purgatorial world where cheating is part of the game.
The month actually kicks off with a very busy first week, beginning with a surprise arrival of the classic RPG Final Fantasy 5 on May 5. This is followed by a packed slate on May 6, which sees a mix of fresh debuts and titles landing on specific tiers. For instance, the action-heavy Ben 10 Power Trip and the tactical shooter Wildgate are joining the service as brand-new entries for all subscribers. Meanwhile, certain games like the challenging souls-like Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the extreme sports sequel Descenders Next, and the cosmic biking title Wheel World are officially being brought down to the Premium tier to expand the library for those members. Achievement hunters should probably look at Ben 10 or Wheel World, as both are relatively quick completions. Later in the wave, the space sim Elite Dangerous makes its return to the catalog on May 12, offering nearly endless gameplay for those who want to lose themselves in a galaxy-sized sandbox.
Of course, as many new titles arrive, some familiar ones are preparing to say goodbye by mid-month. On May 15, five games will be removed from the Game Pass rotation, including the beautiful platformer Planet of Lana and the hospital management sim Galacticare. Other departing titles include Go Mecha Ball, Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo, and the family-friendly Paw Patrol Rescue Wheels. Players can still grab these games at a 20% discount if they want to keep them in their permanent collection before they vanish. With a roadmap this full, Microsoft is clearly setting a high bar for the rest of the year, even as it navigates internal leadership changes and new subscription tiers.
