Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls 6 is one of the most anticipated games currently in development, but it was a no-show at Xbox’s recent summer showcase. Arkane’s Blade was also MIA. We recently got updates on the status of both of those games, and it’s possible that at least one of them could get a new trailer later in 2026.
“I can tell you, having visited Bethesda and sat with Todd and seen Elder Scrolls playing, it looks amazing, and it’s coming along well,” Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty recently told Variety. “And we’ll make sure to announce it and really reveal it at the right time.”
The Elder Scrolls 6 was infamously announced way back at E3 2018 and hasn’t received a new teaser trailer since. While we’ve gotten snippets here and there about what to expect from the pivotal RPG sequel, there’s been no clear timeline on when it’s expected to arrive.
Back during 2023, then-head of Xbox Phil Spencer suggested that The Elder Scrolls 6 was at least five years away, putting its launch tentatively in 2028. Both the PlayStation 6 and Microsoft’s Project Helix are expected to be out by then. At this rate it’s looking like the game might skip an entire console generation.
Marvel’s Blade isn’t canceled, yet
But TES 6 wasn’t the only missing game at the latest showcase. Marvel’s Blade, currently in development at Arkane, was officially revealed back at the 2023 Game Awards. The comic-book action game reportedly didn’t enter full production until 2024, meaning it could still be years until that one is out as well.
“It’s a big show, I can’t fit everything in,” Booty said when asked why there was no new trailer for Blade. “It’s a big show, and there’s other beats coming up in the year.” He added that it was possible any games missing from the summer showcase could end up at a future event, like Gamescom or the 2026 Game Awards.
Of course, we’ve heard Booty give updates on games that Xbox currently has in development before. “I’ve played builds,” he said back in 2023 when asked about how Perfect Dark was shaping up. “I looked at it. I’m very excited for people to see what we’re doing.” Two years later it was canceled.
Asked that same year about Redfall‘s poor launch and whether Arkane Austin would stay open, he said, “That is the plan right now. They are hard at work on updates and continued content for Redfall.” It was shut down the following spring.
“I would say one of the more challenging balancing acts of someone in a job like mine is balancing that you want to go show the world all the cool stuff you’re working on, and you want to get them excited early, but we also know that we want to wait till the right moment,” Booty told Variety this week. “And when you decide to show it, you want it to be the best you’ve got. And also that when you show the game, you’re also giving them a promise of, hey, it’s coming soon.”
Microsoft is currently careening toward another mass layoff later this month. We’ll see what survives the fallout this time.
