Xbox Quashes Rumor About the Next-Gen Project Helix Console

Xbox Quashes Rumor About the Next-Gen Project Helix Console

A rumor has been debunked, which claimed that Xbox’s Project Helix will not be a first-party console, but actually a third-party device similar to the ROG Xbox Ally. With so many changes happening at Xbox over the last few years, fans have been speculating a lot about what the future might entail for the brand as a whole.

In 2025, Microsoft and ASUS teamed up to release a handheld device. Reception to the ROG Xbox Ally has been mixed since launch, with some users lamenting the overall cost and the lack of actual Xbox features. For one thing, the system does not allow Xbox users to download the games they own to the system, only offering the option to play cloud-based titles.

Xbox Game Pass Subscribers Have to Say Goodbye to 9 Games on April 30

Xbox Game Pass subscribers have only a short time left to enjoy several titles on the service, as they will be removed at the end of April.

The Next Xbox Console

Xbox has been teasing Project Helix over the last few weeks, which will be the successor to the Xbox Series X/S. A full reveal for the system hasn’t happened yet, but there has already been a lot of speculation from fans. Things began on the NeoGAF forums after poster KeplerL2 claimed that fans will be able to buy consoles that use the Helix infrastructure, but they’ll be made by other companies such as ASUS. This led to rumors that Project Helix isn’t actually being created as a first-party console, and would instead be similar to the ROG Xbox Ally.

After that rumor spread to Twitter, Xbox VP of Next-Gen Jason Ronald shut down some of the speculation. In a reply to a post sharing the rumor, Ronald stated that Project Helix is a first-party console, similar to the Xbox Series X/S. However, Ronald did not address the other part of the rumor, which suggests that Microsoft allies will be able to offer their own Helix devices. If true, that could end up being the best of both worlds; Xbox fans would still have the option of purchasing a traditional console, but there could be other options on the market.

For now, Xbox fans will have to wait patiently to see what the future has in store. The brand is in the middle of a transition right now, following huge leadership changes at Xbox. Asha Sharma’s tenure as the head of the company has just begun, and it’s clear several changes are underway. Sharma seems to be moving away from some of the more controversial choices made by the company over the last few years. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be getting a price drop, and the “this is an Xbox” marketing campaign has come to an end.

Project Helix offers Xbox a chance to turn things around after a difficult console generation. There are a lot of questions still up in the air, including how much the next Xbox console will cost. Xbox has been a lot more candid about the system compared to PlayStation, which has offered few details about the PS6 by comparison. That would seem to suggest that a full reveal of the system might happen relatively soon, but until then, fans are going to speculate. That’s just the nature of how video game announcements play out, but Project Helix could be the first step on a brighter path for the company.
