Xbox users can put any saved Microsoft Rewards or Xbox Rewards points toward the pre-order purchase of Grand Theft Auto 6. As a result, some dedicated Xbox users have already taken advantage of this method and bought digital copies of GTA 6 without spending actual money.
The revelation came shortly after Rockstar Games revealed the price and pre-order window for GTA 6. As the most anticipated games of the year, GTA 6 is expected to sell millions of copies across PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, GTA 6 will not be cheap. Rockstar Games confirmed that GTA 6‘s Standard Edition will cost $79.99, with the Ultimate Edition priced at $99.99. Pre-orders for GTA 6 are now available via the Microsoft Store and other retailers.
Xbox Details Big Game-Changing Console Updates
Some big changes are on the way for Xbox players with a new update introducing game-changing features, and some players can preview them now.
GTA 6 Can Be Bought Using Microsoft Rewards Points
Since Rockstar Games has placed some of GTA 6′s content behind the Ultimate Edition, users looking to get the full experience will have to spend some serious cash. However, some clever Xbox users have already used Microsoft Rewards or Xbox Rewards points to buy GTA 6 via Xbox gift cards. Users on the Microsoft Rewards subreddit, such as CarolinaKing704, shared screenshots of their purchase. As of this writing, the amount of Microsoft Rewards points needed to purchase a $100 Xbox gift card is currently 110,000 points. Microsoft Rewards and Xbox Rewards grant users points for completing daily tasks, including Bing searches, daily check-ins, and quizzes. Users can earn a few points per day by taking time to search for different topics on Bing.
Along with the aforementioned Xbox gift cards, Microsoft Rewards points can also be spent on digital gift cards for retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy. As of April 2026, Microsoft Rewards points can be directly redeemed for Xbox game purchases, with no gift cards necessary. However, Xbox gift cards that are bought with Microsoft Rewards points will expire after 90 days of purchase. Ergo, Xbox users looking to buy GTA 6 via this method should wait until the game’s November 19 release date draws closer.
Users can check how many Microsoft Rewards or Xbox Rewards points they have via Bing or the My Rewards tab on Xbox consoles and the Xbox mobile app. Given the fact that GTA 6: Ultimate Edition will set fans back $99.99 before taxes and fees are applied, users will likely have to put in serious work to earn enough points to either buy the game outright or apply a sizable discount toward it. Since physical copies of GTA 6 will not be on discs at launch, digital downloads of Rockstar Games’ upcoming title will be the only way to play it.
However, users looking to buy an Xbox console to play GTA 6 and other titles will not have much time to purchase one at current prices. Microsoft announced that Xbox Series X/S prices will once again be increased across the board starting on August 1. Given that Microsoft Rewards points can currently be used to buy GTA 6, it remains to be seen how many players will take advantage of it.
