A brand-new Pokemon release suddenly allows fans to play on PC. 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the monster-catching franchise, as the first-ever games in the series debuted in Japan in 1996 as Pokemon Red and Green, which later released worldwide as Pokemon Red and Blue. The franchise has enjoyed nine main generations of games, sequels, spin-offs, anime releases, and products of all kinds, and it’s one of the most successful in the world. Pokemon fans are now waiting for Generation 10, which will allegedly release in late 2027.
Still, the celebrations in 2026 are far from over. The Pokemon Company recently released a new Pokemon Home update that allows Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen players to get a free Celebi, enables support for the Gen 3 ports on Switch and Switch 2, and adds more storage space for premium accounts. Several games are getting special events and promotions to honor the 30th anniversary, and Pokemon TCG even got a dedicated set with great pull rates. Though not an official release, fans can now also play Pokemon on PC with daily updates.
Pokemon: Daily Red Officially Available Now

Pokemon fans can now play a new game called Daily Red on the website of the same name, where fans can play Gen 3 Pokemon battles using randomly generated critters each day against the iconic team used by Red in Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. Red always leads with a Pikachu, but also has Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Espeon, and Snorlax on his team, whereas players get a new team to try every 24 hours at midnight local time. The game is basically Wordle for Pokemon battles, with the puzzle being managing to defeat Red in a daily battle to keep one’s streak. Much like in the actual mainline games, Red is one of the best Pokemon trainers ever, and despite always using the same team with the same lead, he is tough to beat.

Thankfully, players can use a feature that allows them to practice the battle before committing to their single, best of one daily attempt. Even then, figuring out a good strategy doesn’t mean it will always go the same way, because Daily Red features critical hits and accuracy moves, so there can always be some variance between attempts, as opposed to Wordle. Out of every team Red has had in Pokemon games, this is the most iconic. It’s also interesting to see only Gen 1-through-3 Pokemon available in the random selection of critters that show up daily for all players, giving the game an even more nostalgic vibe — especially combined with retro graphics. Daily Red is completely free for all players, and it saves data locally on the user’s browser, so no account is needed to keep one’s streak.

The team Red uses is also quite competitive, with Gen 3 rulesets, such as the split between Physical and Special types. In fact, Red’s Snorlax can easily destroy players’ teams if left unchecked because it has access to Body Slam, Earthquake, and (physical) Shadow Ball. This is also why Snorlax is one of the best Pokemon in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, as it learns many powerful moves.
Fans may soon get to play Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, as more and more leaks and rumors are piling up, alongside the official Japanese Pokemon Twitter account sharing a clip of the Gen 3 games on a modern console or emulator. As such, Daily Red can help players with teambuilding ahead of new Gen 3 ports on the Switch.
