A Norwegian electronics store is giving away Grand Theft Auto 6 for free, but fans need to have a baby on release day to qualify for the offer. It’s been a long road so far for the much-anticipated Rockstar title, and while the end of the wait is now finally in sight, the craziness accompanying it is far from over. As retailers gear up for the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, at least one unconventional marketing scheme for the game has already cropped up.
GTA 6‘s release window has felt uncertain for much of the past two years. Rockstar delayed its launch twice, and stories of layoffs and large dev workloads sparked fears of another delay as information-hungry fans went without any official updates from the studio. Now, though, Take-Two Interactive has reaffirmed GTA 6‘s November 19 release date and promised to kick off marketing efforts this summer, assuaging many of these fears. Some gamers anxious to pick up a copy on that day now have an opportunity to do so for free, but the requirements are steep.

Take-Two’s CEO confidently states that Rockstar is fully focused on making Grand Theft Auto 6 the best game anyone has ever seen.
Gamers in Norway Can Get GTA 6 for Free by Having a Baby on Release Day
In a February 11 Instagram post, Norwegian electronics retailer Komplett announced it would give out free copies of GTA 6 to anyone who has a baby on its launch date. While the post didn’t include the normal laundry list of terms and conditions that giveaways come with, it did start off by saying “this is actually not a joke,” so the offer, however ridiculous it sounds, is legit. There’s technically still time to act on it, too, as GTA 6 is roughly nine months away at the time of writing, so a baby conceived around now, February 12, has a chance of being born on November 19, when the game comes out.

Plenty of gaming companies have engaged in big giveaways before. Just last year, Microsoft gave away a custom Expedition 33-themed Xbox Series X, and promotional tie-ins where fans can find download codes on some food and drink products are fairly common. Still, it’s not every day that a store gives away a game for having a child. The announcement does make a strange sort of sense in its timing, though. It just so happens that GTA 6 is dropping roughly nine months after Valentine’s Day 2026, and while that’s likely not what Rockstar planned when it delayed the game to its current release date, it does present Komplett with a great opportunity for an eye-catching promotional stunt.
Whether anyone will attempt to take advantage of the offer remains to be seen. There are some rumors that GTA 6 could cost as much as $100, though others have dismissed that claim. Regardless, Rockstar has yet to confirm the price, and it’s hard to ignore a free game, especially one as big as GTA 6, in any context. Having a baby is a much more expensive life choice than even a $100 video game, so Komplett’s offer does not really save any money, but it could theoretically be a nice gift for anyone who happens to have a baby on that day.
Baby-related promotions aside, the reminder that the game is just nine months away comes as a sigh of relief. While there are still rumors that GTA 6 is not yet content-complete, Take-Two doubling down on the November 19 release date in its recent financial report seems to clear up much, if not all, of the worry of another delay. The long-awaited launch is finally in sight, whether any new parents get a free copy or not.
