YouTube Premium is Getting More Expensive

YouTube Premium is Getting More Expensive

YouTube has announced it will officially be raising the price for YouTube Premium in the United States. The change has already seen many fans canceling their subscriptions to the ad-free YouTube service.

YouTube Premium has been a popular addition to the platform for many users, allowing fans to watch their favorite content creators without ad breaks. The monthly subscription service touts the removal of ads from the platform as one of its biggest features, cutting out both pre-video and mid-roll ad breaks. YouTube Premium even allows subscribers to download videos for offline viewing, while also adding background audio on YouTube’s mobile app while a device is locked. However, users paying for Premium are now going to see a noticeable spike in their subscription fees in the near future.

The Gaming Historian is Done Making YouTube Videos

The Gaming Historian releases a new video for the first time in two years, revealing that he will no longer be making videos on YouTube.

YouTube is Raising Prices for YouTube Premium

  • YouTube Premium: $15.99/mo
  • YouTube Premium Family Plan: $26.99
  • Prices will differ between mobile and desktop subscribers

Many users reported receiving new emails from YouTube confirming that YouTube Premium’s rates are going up. Users subscribed to YouTube Premium through the platform’s official website will see the monthly price raised from $13.99 to $15.99 soon. Some fans subscribing through third-party services like Apple have reported their rates going even higher, with one fan sharing that their fees will now be $20.99 per month for Premium. The change will also affect the price of the family plan for YouTube Premium, with the group subscription being raised to $26.99 per month. YouTube did not confirm an exact date for the price hike, though many have said that the new price will appear on their next billing statement.

The raised prices for YouTube Premium have led to plenty of backlash from fans furious about the increased rates. Many subscribers confirmed they have canceled their subscriptions to YouTube Premium in the aftermath of the price hike, not wanting to support the company raising rates again. One fan also pointed out that YouTube’s new pricing now means that some subscribers will be paying more for their YouTube Premium subscription than a monthly subscription to streaming services like Netflix. The YouTube emails did not confirm an official reason for the raised price, only stating that it “does not make these decisions lightly.”

YouTube’s new pricing for Premium comes as the platform’s ads have been a significant source of controversy. Google pushed out a major change to its ads on the platform in March, rolling out new unskippable 30-second ads on the YouTube TV app. The platform has also made a significant push against adblockers in recent months, which has occasionally backfired and created issues for YouTube Premium subscribers using third-party apps to block advertisements.

The new rates for YouTube Premium are far from the only price hikes to hit a popular subscription service throughout recent months. Netflix announced it was raising its prices in the United States in March, with the standard ad-free service going from $17.99 to $19.99 per month. Disney+ has also seen multiple price hikes throughout the past year, with the popular streaming platform confirmed to be merging with Hulu in 2026. Streaming services continue to grow more expensive with each month, forcing fans to pay more for their favorite online content.
