A new LEGO set featuring Luigi in a quintessential Mario Kart 8 vehicle is now official, complete with a steep $169.99 price tag. The model marks the first addition to LEGO’s Super Mario theme since spring 2025, pushing the lineup further into collector-focused, premium display territory.
LEGO originally launched its Super Mario line in July 2020. Since then, the product range has grown well beyond its original interactive playsets to include various character and “Power-Up” packs, as well as display-dedicated designs catering to collectors. The most recent wave of LEGO Super Mario sets was unveiled in May 2025 and hit the store shelves three months later.

LEGO Unveils ‘Mario Kart – Luigi and Mach 8’ Set for MAR10 Day 2026
Following a seven-month hiatus, Nintendo and LEGO have returned with another Super Mario-themed set unveiled for Mario Day 2026: 72050 Mario Kart – Luigi & Mach 8. The newly announced model depicts Mario’s timid brother at the wheel of the Mach 8, a turbine engine-shaped vehicle featured in Mario Kart 8, MK8 Deluxe, and Mario Kart Tour. The scene is rendered across 2,234 pieces, making it one of the largest Super Mario sets LEGO has released to date. Luigi & Mach 8 is available for pre-order via LEGO’s official channels beginning today, March 10. It is priced at $169.99 and scheduled for release on April 1, 2026.

As is typical for massive LEGO sets whose piece counts are deep in the four-digit territory, 72050 Luigi & Mach 8 is rated as an adult-oriented build for ages 18 and up. In addition to a poseable Luigi figure, the set includes a kart with functional steering and a spinning flame exhaust, as well as a display stand designed to present the vehicle in a drifting pose.

At $169.99, Luigi & Mach 8 ranks among the 10 most expensive LEGO sets in the Super Mario line, tying with 72037 Mario & Standard Kart for sixth place. Originally launched in summer 2025, Mario & Standard Kart has the same price tag and comes in a similar form factor, but it is notably smaller, with its 1,972-piece count amounting to about 13% fewer pieces than the newly announced set. Luigi & Mach 8 is the seventh LEGO set to date to feature Luigi, and by far the most expensive from that group. Fittingly, it contains (89) more pieces than the other six combined.

Although Luigi & Mach 8 is the inaugural Super Mario set unveiled in 2026, it is not the year’s first LEGO product based on a Nintendo property. On March 1, the Danish toymaker released a 1,003-piece, $129.99 recreation of the climactic battle from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, alongside three models that mark the global debut of its official Pokemon line. The latter are headlined by 72153 Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise, a gigantic set with nearly 7,000 pieces and an eye-watering price of $649.99.
