2XKO Teases What’s Coming in Future Updates

Amid recent talk of layoffs, Riot Games revealed upcoming content and plans for 2XKO to reassure its players that the game isn’t dying. It’s been a very long road for 2XKO, with the path sometimes taking some major twists and turns. Things appeared to be on track in 2025 after Riot finally confirmed a PC launch for 2XKO on October 7, which eventually expanded to PlayStation and Xbox players in January 2026.

UInfortunately, things took a surprising turn just weeks after the 2XKO console launch. While players praised the feel and mechanics of the fighting game, Riot announced that the game didn’t reach the level that was deemed necessary to support a development team as big as that one. Surprisingly, Riot laid off around 80 2XKO developers, which amounted to half of the total development team working on the game. Following the tough news, players feared that 2XKO was coming to an end less than a month after officially launching, though that doesn’t appear to be the case whatsoever.

All 2XKO Characters (& How to Unlock Them)

Here’s how to unlock all fighters in Riot Games’ 2XKO, along with a quick look at each champion’s attacks and playstyle.

2XKO Reveals Upcoming Plans and Characters

In a new blog post from Shaun Rivera regarding the future of the game, fans were given a preview as to what Riot Games is planning both in the near and long term. Naturally, characters are a major element to fighting games and while many were surprised at the small champion launch roster for 2XKO, Riot is continuing to expand the selection with each season.

While Caitlin was the first champion to join during 2XKO season 1, Riot revealed a quick look at the next two characters coming to the game: Akali and Senna. For many fans, Akali was a highly requested character, a ninja-style character from the Runeterra universe, who uses a kunai and kusarigama to move fast and strike opponents swiftly.

Also revealed was Senna, a character that has a massive relic gun and wields the power of light and shadow. Using the gun, Senna is able to shoot at the opponent from range, but instead of simply zoning them out, she can rush them down using her wraith form to get in close and mix them up. Rivera is quick to mention that both characters being shown off are still in development, but they’ll be sharing more about both of them at a later date.

In addition to new champion reveals, the blog also gave fans insight into what else the team is working on, including fixes for current issues like screen tearing on console versions of 2XKO. Riot is focusing on three core elements of 2XKO, taking advantage of the game’s unique Duo Play mechanic by introducing a local version to support couch co-op when going online. Rivera also mentioned that the skill high ceiling won’t be changing, doubling down on the “sauce” each character has while also making each champion’s strengths and weaknesses more clear. Finally, the team will continue to push how 2XKO is supported through tournaments and communities.

While the news is ultimately good for players worried that 2XKO might be dying or at least slowing down on game support after the recent layoff announcement, many are still trying to figure out how the game even got into this position so early after launch. While some have indicated that the marketing hasn’t been as strong as it could have been, many have pointed the finger at the cosmetic prices, a common issue between all Riot Games like Valorant and League of Legends.

Considering that Riot’s games are free-to-play, the studio finds other ways to earn money from its players. In large part, this means cosmetic items and seasonal passes. Following in the footsteps of Riot’s other games, 2XKO fans appear to be frustrated by the cosmetic prices within the game already. Most character skins cost around $20, with bundles pushing price points even higher, like the Season 1 Arcade Megabundle coming in at an eye-watering $80. Even the Arcane set for Vi, Jinx, and Ekko, which fans have praised for how authentic they look to the Netflix series, can only be unlocked by purchasing a $100 Starter Bundle.
