4 Xbox Game Pass Games Are Leaving on February 28

Xbox Game Pass will drop four titles on February 28, including Injustice 2, which is currently one of its highest-rated games. The upcoming removals will bring the total number of titles leaving the Xbox Game Pass library in February 2026 to five.

Microsoft’s subscription service typically rotates out multiple titles every 15 days. This time around, only one game—Madden NFL 24—is scheduled to leave Xbox Game Pass on February 15. As is often the case, Microsoft updated the “Leaving Soon” section of the Xbox Game Pass web catalog just ahead of the latest wave of removals.

Xbox Game Pass Adds 2 Day-One Games, One With 4-Player Co-Op

Two more day-one releases join the Xbox Game Pass library, with one of them being a wacky early access title with four-player co-op.

The Xbox Game Pass departures scheduled for February 28 are: Injustice 2, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, Monster Train, and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. In terms of critical acclaim, Injustice 2 is the biggest loss from this upcoming wave of removals, as its 87 average score on OpenCritic makes it one of the highest-rated titles currently available on Xbox Game Pass. Content volume-wise, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is the most substantial departure, as crowdsourced estimates suggest Saber Interactive’s open-world driving adventure can take more than 100 hours to complete.

Most titles from the February 28 wave of departures have been part of the service for years. The lone newer addition is Monster Train, which was only added to Xbox Game Pass in early March 2025, meaning it will exit just shy of its first anniversary. At the other end of the spectrum is Middle-earth: Shadow of War, which joined the service in July 2019. Monolith Productions, the studio behind the game, was shut down in February 2025. Meanwhile, publisher Warner Bros. Discovery is pursuing a deal that would see Netflix acquire its studios and assets following a planned separation, though the transaction is still pending. The current situation indicates that it may be a while before Middle-earth: Shadow of War returns to Xbox Game Pass or appears on any other subscription service.

The “Leaving Soon” section of the Xbox Game Pass web catalog has historically been a relatively reliable, yet not perfectly accurate source of imminent departures from the service. The final confirmation of February 28 removals is expected to arrive alongside the Wave 2 lineup announcement for this month. Based on Microsoft’s usual announcement cadence, this reveal is likely to happen next Tuesday, February 17. That’s also the day when Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is scheduled to join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

As things currently stand, Microsoft’s subscription catalog will lose a total of five titles over the course of February 2026. The service has already added 13 games since the start of the month, with several more scheduled to arrive, making February a significant net gain for the library overall. Looking ahead, Xbox Game Pass already has several confirmed releases for March 2026. The first of those is puzzle platformer Planet of Lana 2, which is scheduled to drop on March 5. It will be followed by cyberpunk action platformer Replaced on March 12. Picturesque city builder Nova Roma is then set to arrive on March 26. The Xbox Game Pass Wave 1 and 2 lineup announcements for next month are expected to be formally announced on March 3 and 17, respectively.
