PlayStation users are set to lose access to online services for five games throughout September 2026, with confirmation that all of these titles will be shutting down. Headlining these PlayStation games are two first-person shooters – both from the same developer – which were released in the last two years.
The era of live-service games means that online server shutdowns are unfortunately much more common than they ever have been. There is more competition for gamers’ attention than ever, too, and that means that there simply aren’t enough players to go around for every online game to be a success. Some games last longer than others, but in recent years, it has become increasingly common for games to shut down if they aren’t an immediate success. Highguard shutting down in March, just 45 days after release, stands out as a particularly egregious example, as does Concord being shut down two weeks after its launch in late 2024. It’s a contentious topic in the industry, but shutdowns seem to have no end in sight.
PlayStation Games Shutting Down in September 2026 Include Splitgate: Arena Reloaded and GRID Legends
September is officially here, and that, unfortunately, means a new month of PlayStation game shutdowns. Five titles will be shutting down their online services for good, including Hawked, GRID Legends, and Sociable Soccer 25. The remaining two are Splitgate: Arena Reloaded and EMPULSE, both fast-paced first-person shooters from developer 1047 Games, after launching in 2025 and 2026, respectively. From the five games, Hawked and Sociable Soccer 25 have already been delisted. GRID Legends remains up for sale, but has single-player features that gamers will still be able to enjoy after its online servers are shut down.

There is a very important caveat regarding the shutdown and end of active development for 1047 Games’ shooters Splitgate: Arena Reloaded and EMPULSE. The dedicated servers for the games will be shutting down permanently, but the developer has already confirmed that the pair will transition to peer-to-peer hosting with a server browser. While the experience might not be exactly the same (especially in fast-paced games like these), it’s good that players have the opportunity to keep these games alive beyond their shutdown date.
Online services for all five games are being shut down across all platforms – not just PlayStation 4 and 5.
The shutdown of most of these games has been known for a while. Sociable Soccer 25 gave players 180 days’ notice, HAWKED developer MY.GAMES informed players back in March, and GRID Legends fans were told in June. Only the 107 Games titles’ dedicated server shutdowns come on short notice, and even that is hardly a surprise. Splitgate: Arena Reloaded struggled to bounce back after its Splitgate 2 unlaunch and relaunch controversy, and EMPULSE never quite took off, despite comparisons to Titanfall.
It’s always a sad day when games go offline, and these PlayStation shutdowns are not the only ones this month. Mario Kart Tour is shutting down on September 30, while mobile game Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls is also being delisted on September 3. It’s rare for massively popular games to shut down in their prime, but it’s still unfortunate for those who are still playing them when they go offline.
