Zenless Zone Zero Reveals What's Coming in the Version 2.8 Update

Zenless Zone Zero is getting ready to launch Version 2.8 on May 6, which will add new playable characters, limited events, a new skin, and more. HoYoverse’s action RPG has been steadily adding multiple units in its latest patches, including all members of the fan-favorite Angels of Delusion faction. Zenless Zone Zero‘s main story has also been building up to discovering Ramiel’s true intentions. Now, a new trailer for Version 2.8 shows players what to expect in the next chapter.

Zenless Zone Zero‘s ongoing Version 2.7 introduced the S-Rank Ether Stun unit Nangong Yu, who is also the leader of the Angels of Delusion. Her anticipated release brought a full circle to the once-mysterious faction from the game’s lore. More recently, during its second half, the game debuted S-Rank Attack character Cissia, a valuable support for Electric DPS teams in Zenless Zone Zero. Cissia played a key role in a battle against Promeia, an antagonist in the 2.7 story. However, it seems Promeia will become an ally in Version 2.8.

Zenless Zone Zero Reveals Upcoming Version 2.8 Content

Zenless Zone Zero has shared a new trailer for Version 2.8 “New: Eridan Sunset,” the last chapter of its 2.0 patch cycle, scheduled for launch on May 6. The ambitious patch is finally adding Promeia to the playable roster. Promeia is an S-Rank Ice Anomaly agent whose kit centers around triggering Abloom. She will debut in Zenless Zone Zero‘s upcoming banners during Version 2.8’s first half alongside Lucia’s rerun. Phase 2 will see the debut of Physical Rupture agent Starlight – Billy. The unit is an S-Rank version of the already popular A-Rank Billy Kid, member of the Cunning Hares. Starlight – Billy’s gameplay features motorcycle combat and serious Physical damage scaling from his maximum health. Starlight – Billy’s debut banner will run alongside Orphie & Magus’ rerun.

The 2.8 update will add a new Zenless Zone Zero main story chapter, titled “New: Eridan Sunset (B).” The quest picks up where Version 2.7 left off, after players found out that Velina and Norma were trying to stop Ramiel. In the Version 2.8 trailer, Ramiel reveals her real identity: Remielle Dan. Fans will temporarily ally with Promeia, Cissia, and Starlight – Billy to uncover Remielle’s apparent evil plans. Aside from the story content and new S-Rank agents, the patch will add a new A-Rank Zenless Zone Zero Bangboo named Booltergeist. Players can obtain it for free by participating in the “Marcel Bootopia” event, where fans will explore a Bangboo resort island. Additionally, Version 2.8 will release a new, elegant skin for Hoshimi Miyabi, available through the in-game store at launch.

Similar to previous patches, Version 2.8 will give players plenty of rewards to help them pull for new characters. Fans can simply log in to claim up to 10 Encrypted Master Tapes and 10 Boopons. Limited events will also offer free Polychromes, EXP materials, and more. HoYoverse has also confirmed that Zenless Zone Zero is coming to Steam in the near future, and fans can already add the game to their wishlist. By reaching wishlist milestones, the game will give fans exciting rewards, as happened when Zenless Zone Zero launched on Xbox in June 2025.

It is worth noting that Version 2.8 will set up the stage for the 3.0 cycle. The next era is expected to make several additions to the Zenless Zone Zero roster, along with the mysterious area of Roscaelifer. Some fans hope that characters like Remielle, Velina, and Norma will become playable, but players will have to wait for a confirmation from HoYoverse in future updates.
