2025’s Worst-Reviewed Game Is Getting A Big Price Drop

Mindseye isn’t a good game. Developed by Build A Rocket Boy, a studio created by former longtime Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, the semi-open-world game launched last year to horrible reviews, becoming the worst-reviewed game of the year according to Metacritic. But hey, at least now Mindseye is $25 cheaper thanks to a new price drop.

On April 28, Build A Rocket Boy confirmed that it had fully completed its previously announced plan to split from publisher IOI and start self-publishing Mindseye. The first big change in this new era for Mindseye is that the indie studio is lowering the price from $60 to $35 across all platforms. And this is a permanent price drop, not just a limited-time sale. This feels like the studio trying to entice people to give the game a shot after a lot of bad press, negative reviews, and viral clips of buggy gameplay.

“Now is the perfect time to experience MindsEye,” said Co-CEO and CTO Mark Gerhard, “with over a year of enhancements, new content, and a more accessible price of entry. We look forward to continuing to expand MindsEye and ARCADIA, and seeing what players and creators will accomplish next.”

Besides the big price cut, Mindseye is also getting its first big new piece of story DLC in the form of Blacklisted. This mission stars a new character and is focused on espionage. Also added today: new tools for players to use when creating their own in-game missions, races, and activities.

Will this all be enough to bring in players who were likely scared away by the negative reviews and horrible-looking gameplay videos? I’m not sure. Meanwhile, Gerhard has continued to blame outsider saboteurs for ruining the game’s reputation and launch. In March, after announcing more layoffs, the CEO also claimed the studio has been “working with external partners and legal advisors to investigate” alleged “criminal activity” that happened during Mindseye’s launch.
