One Crimson Desert player’s discovery has hinted that the game’s future could already be waiting out of bounds. This clever player has used Crimson Desert‘s Photo Mode to explore outside the playable area, finding an entire town that looks almost game-ready.
Crimson Desert is one of the biggest video game releases of the year so far. The open-world RPG has captivated gamers since its release on March 19, with millions of sales worldwide. Developer Pearl Abyss was even praised by South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, who admired how the game raised the profile of the nation’s game industry globally. Since its release, Crimson Desert has continued to enjoy huge player counts, defying typical logic for single-player games, which usually drop off considerably in the weeks following release as gamers finish their playthroughs.
Crimson Desert Has a Ghosting Problem
Crimson Desert players report the game’s extreme ghosting problems in particular situations, and its beautiful graphics only exacerbate the issue.
Crimson Desert Out of Bounds Village Could Hint at Future Content
On Reddit, user RazielOfBoletaria used Crimson Desert‘s Blackstar mount to fly out of the map, far north of Pailune and Silver Wolf Mountain, only to find an entire unused town out of bounds. The town can be found approximately two and a half minutes away from the map boundary, meaning it’s some distance away from the playable area. Unfortunately, the town has an out-of-bounds countdown timer, meaning it’s impossible to actually explore it for long as Kliff. However, using Photo Mode, they were able to examine the town a little more closely, revealing that it is almost finished and even has an unusable notice board.
Naturally, players in the thread were quick to speculate about the nature of the unused town, and whether it could be used for future content. It feels like there are two possibilities here. The first is that the unfinished town is part of Crimson Desert‘s cut content. If this is the case, it’s still possible that Pearl Abyss could revisit this in the future, but players shouldn’t count on it. The other main possibility is that this is a potential sign of a Crimson Desert map expansion. The game’s map is already massive, but any potential expansion could see the playable area grow to add more content. Right now, there’s no way to tell for sure why this town remains in Crimson Desert‘s out-of-bounds area, but it’s definitely interesting to ponder and see what happens with it.
One comment in the thread pointed out that it’s possible to use Crimson Desert mods to get out of bounds without a countdown timer, which would allow complete exploration of the abandoned town. As RazielOfBoletaria has only had the chance to fully roam in Photo Mode, it would be interesting to see if there’s anything further to be gleaned by exploring the town while playing as Kliff.

A map expansion for Crimson Desert doesn’t feel out of the question, considering how often the developer continues to update the game with new content. The most recent Crimson Desert update added replayable endgame features, allowing players to rematch powerful bosses and repopulate enemy zones to give themselves more combat opportunities as the game progresses. It’s clear that Pearl Abyss is committed to Crimson Desert in the long run, and hopefully this continues to result in a better player experience with each and every update.
