An open-world survival co-op game called The Planet Crafter, which has been on Steam since 2022 with overwhelmingly positive reviews, is finally coming to PlayStation 5. Many have compared The Planet Crafter to Subnautica, a popular survival and base-building game.
Notably, Subnautica 2‘s early access version is currently not available on PlayStation 5, as it is only playable on PC and Xbox Series X/S. As a result, The Planet Crafter can be seen as a substitute for that game, offering plenty of content to keep players engaged. Recently, developer Miju Games announced that The Planet Crafter has sold over two million copies on PC, which serves as a testament to its success before joining the roster of PS5 games.
Medieval Open World Game Now on PS5, and It Will Soon Be Co-Op
A popular medieval game with a massive open-world map is finally available on PlayStation 5, and early reviews are promising.
The Planet Crafter Is Coming to PS5 in July
Announced via a PlayStation Blog post, The Planet Crafter‘s PS5 release date is set for July 21, 2026. The price has not been confirmed at the time of writing, but it will likely align with the Steam version at $23.99 USD. The Planet Crafter is considered one of the best cozy sci-fi games, as it doesn’t feature any violence or gore. Its premise is simple: terraform an uninhabited planet and turn it into a living, Earth-like biome, either solo or with up to seven other players in the co-op mode.

According to developer Miju Games, The Planet Crafter won’t feature cross-platform support “for now.” As a result, PS5 players won’t be able to team up with friends on Steam or Xbox Series X/S. However, cross-platform play could be added in future updates.
Unlike some open-world survival games that leave players without a clear purpose, The Planet Crafter encourages a shared goal: building a living world from the ground up. While this objective is not strictly imposed, it is integrated into the progression system. Players can choose how they approach it, whether through an exploration-first strategy or a more grind-focused path to terraform the planet as quickly as possible.
Now seems like a perfect time to pick up The Planet Crafter for a couple of reasons. First, the game recently received its 2.0 update, which added new content and visual improvements. Second, developer Miju Games has also teased an upcoming free update introducing a new moon called Seko, complete with new lore, machines, resources, and species to discover.
PS5 users who also have access to a gaming PC can currently try The Planet Crafter‘s free demo on Steam before committing to a purchase. Otherwise, they will need to wait until July 21, when it arrives on Sony’s current-gen console. It is also worth noting that The Planet Crafter has been confirmed as a day-one Xbox Game Pass release in July, meaning some Xbox Series X/S players will be able to play it at no additional cost.
