Diablo 4 Has a Virtually Useless Horadric Cube Item That Players Should Avoid at All Costs

Diablo 4 Has a Virtually Useless Horadric Cube Item That Players Should Avoid at All Costs

By far the most game-changing addition to Diablo 4 in the Lord of Hatred expansion is the return of the Horadric Cube. Having the Horadric Cube available as a way to precisely modify gear makes it possible to create some of the best endgame builds Diablo 4 has ever seen. The catch is that Diablo 4 doesn’t let players directly control which affixes are rolled onto gear in the Horadric Cube, but it does offer a few ways to affect the chance of receiving the player’s desired outcome.

The Horadric Cube allows Diablo 4 players to do anything from add or remove an affix, to craft Charms and Runes, and even transmute a Common Diablo 4 item into a Unique one. However, one of the most important features of the Horadric Cube is the ability to Transfigure an item, adding a bonus affix onto it with potentially game-breaking effects. This is a high-risk/high reward process that players can affect using an Entropic Tuning Prism or a Kullean Tuning Prism, but the former is almost never worth using when Transfiguring endgame Diablo 4 gear.

Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred’s New Mythic Unique Makes Another One Virtually Useless

The addition of a new Mythic Unique in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred has sunk the utility of another, to the point where it’s almost never worth using.

Diablo 4’s Entropic Tuning Prism Should Basically Never Be Used in the Horadric Cube

Transfiguration is an incredibly powerful feature of the Horadric Cube that can add an affix like Gem Strength that is breaking the Diablo 4 meta right now. Essentially, Transfiguration is a permanent version of Diablo 4 Season 11’s Sanctification mechanic, offering players a finishing touch to their gear but has a high risk of making it unmodifiable. Using an Entropic Tuning Prism or Kullean Tuning Prism can affect the affix that is Transfigured through this process, but both come with some significant drawbacks.

How Entropic Tuning Prisms Affects Transfiguration in the Horadric Cube

Used to influence Transfiguration outcomes in the Horadric Cube. Removes the riskiest, but also the most powerful outcomes.
Has a 100% chance of making an item Unmodifiable.

“The Cube is powerful, fine, but its results are meaningless without intent! There must be a way to dampen the chaos…to align matter with my intention.” -Zoltun Kulle

  • Entropic Tuning Prism — Removes the riskiest and most powerful outcomes. Has a 100% chance to make the item unmodifiable.
  • Kullean Tuning Prism — Adds a random bonus Legendary Affix, but only on Amulets. Allows the item to stay modifiable after Transfiguration.

The Kullean Tuning Prism is a great Horadric Cube material that essentially gives players access to a free extra Legendary Affix, with the main caveat being it is only usable on Amulets. For Transfiguring any other type of gear, players have the option to use an Entropic Prism to remove the risk of getting one of the worst possible outcomes at the cost of removing the best possible outcomes as well. As a result, items Transfigured in this way will always be decent, but never build-breaking or meta-defining.

What Makes Entropic Tuning Prisms So Useless in Diablo 4

As a general rule, players looking to create one of Diablo 4‘s best endgame builds should never use an Entropic Tuning Prism for Transfiguration, largely because it prevents them from receiving the game’s best affixes. When trying to hit Diablo 4‘s new Torment tier 12, players will need to get the very best gear available to them, so getting a middling affix like +5-10% Maximum Life isn’t going to cut it. And since Transfiguring an item using an Entropic Tuning Prism makes it unmodifiable, this item will be stuck with a mediocre affix.

The main purpose of using an Entropic Tuning Prism is to remove affixes that could brick a powerful item. However, none of the affixes that can be rolled onto an item using Transfiguration are truly going to brick an item to the point that it is unusable. The worst-case scenario is that it adds something like Indestructible, which isn’t bad but doesn’t offer any combat utility. Conversely, having the chance to get an additional Greater Affix or even an overpowered Gem Strength roll is worth the risk. It’s better to gamble and lose with the potential to hit it big than play it safe and guarantee to lose out on a crazy affix.
