Where To Find Gold In Subnautica 2

Where To Find Gold In Subnautica 2

The planet of Proteus offers a slew of resources for you to loot in Subnautica 2, but some of the most difficult ones to find are minerals. Minerals such as Titanium, Copper, and Silver are used in a variety of crafting recipes, and you’ll often have to head out on scavenging trips just to get enough of one resource for a single item on your to-do list. However, perhaps the most difficult mineral to find in Subnautica 2 is Gold.

Gold isn’t used too frequently in Subnautica 2, but you’ll suddenly need it for a crafting recipe and likely have no idea where to look. For a full explanation on how to find Gold, keep reading the guide below.

Gold location in Subnautica 2

Unlike many of the other minerals in Subnautica 2, you won’t just find a deposit of it in some random location. Instead, you’ll have to progress the story of the game before you’re able to even access the area of Proteus that has Gold.

Gold is located within the high-temperature biome in Subnautica 2, which is found roughly 300 meters directly east of the starting lifepod. If you travel there early on in your playthrough, you’ll get a heat warning on your HUD, and the PDA AI states that you need an adaptation to progress into the biome.

Fortunately, all you need is the Heat Tolerance Adaptation, which is easily acquired by curing and interacting with a specific Angel Comb in Subnautica 2. We went through exactly how to find and cure the right Angel Comb in our previous guide.

When you acquire Heat Tolerance, which is one of three distinct Adaptations in Subnautica 2, you can safely enter the high-temperature waters east of the lifepod. You’ll still want to avoid the thermal vents, though, as your new tolerance only protects you up to around 100 degrees Celsius.

Luckily for you, finding Gold doesn’t require you to go too near the thermal vents. Instead, you can easily find Gold all around the high-temperature biome. There are single deposits of Gold ore sitting on the orange and brown rocks scattered around the biome, as well as Gold Outcrops that you can mine using the Sonic Resonator.

Gold has a distinct appearance from other minerals, as it’s shinier and has holes throughout its deposit. While you might get it mixed up with Sulfur or even Salt during your first time in the hot biome, you’ll quickly be able to recognize Gold after you see it.

As for what you can use Gold for in Subnautica 2, you’ll mainly want it to craft an Advanced Wiring Kit, which requires one Gold, a Wiring Kit, and one Sulfur. The Advanced Wiring Kit is used in the creation of the Dedicated Core, which is a highly advanced piece of technology in Subnautica 2.

In most players’ cases, though, one inventory of Gold will be all you need for the majority of your time on Proteus.
