New Steam Horror Game With 96% Rating is Like a Creepy First-Person Stardew Valley

New Steam Horror Game With 96% Rating is Like a Creepy First-Person Stardew Valley

Steam gamers that want a unique horror game to try will soon have yet another one to add to their digital libraries. Steam has the most comprehensive library of horror games out of any other gaming storefront, with everything from big budget, blockbuster releases to smaller, indie titles that are often experimental in nature. Horror fans don’t need to look far to find a horror game relevant to their interests on Steam, with all kinds of sub-genres and styles well-represented on the platform.

With so many horror games on Steam, it takes a lot for a new release to stand out. Steam horror games have to deliver a unique and interesting spin to get the spotlight. That’s exactly what Dread Fields is doing. The new game is a first-person horror game that has players living on a farm and doing chores, ala something like Stardew Valley, all the while something more sinister is going on.

New Steam Horror Game is a Creepy Throwback to the Early 2000s

This new horror game coming to PC via steam is a creepy throwback to the uncanny visuals and gameplay of early 2000s classics.

Dread Fields is a Horror Farming Game

In Dread Fields, players purchase a house and small farm out in the country from a “strange old man.” This isn’t totally unlike the set-up for Stardew Valley, where players inherit a farm from their grandfather. In Dread Fields, players will be completing tasks like milking cows, mowing grass, feeding their pet cat, picking mushrooms, chopping wood, fishing, growing plants, and more. But whereas Stardew Valley is meant to be played indefinitely, a playthrough of Dread Fields will wrap up in a little over an hour, though there will be multiple endings to shoot for, so players have reasons to revisit their farm.

The game features graphics meant to look like a mid-2000s game, which adds a lot to Dread Fields‘ creepy vibes. According to the Steam page, Dread Fields is aiming to deliver an “atmosphere of loneliness and isolation,” and it certainly looks like it’s achieving its goal. As a big fan of the horror genre, I am excited to see if Dread Fields is able to live up to its full potential. What’s been shown of the game so far certainly looks promising.

Dread Fields is launching on Thursday, May 28, but if you are like me and are intrigued by the concept, you don’t have to wait that long to play it. A Dread Fields demo is available on Steam right now, giving horror fans the opportunity to try before they buy. The demo has earned a 96% approval rating from Steam users, which is a good indication that Dread Fields will be a safe bet for horror fans needing a new game to play.

In the meantime, Stardew Valley enthusiasts that want more horror games to play should also keep an eye on Grave Seasons. Sticking closer to the Stardew Valley formula than Dread Fields, Grave Seasons has players farming and interacting with the local townspeople, but the twist is that one of the townspeople is actually a serial killer. Grave Seasons isn’t out until August 14, so Steam gamers may want to check out Dread Fields while they wait.
