Project Rabbit is an upcoming Soulslike game that’s just appeared on Steam. This dark fantasy Steam title will take the story of Alice in Wonderland and give it an action-RPG twist. Project Rabbit will be the debut release from NovaFlare Games, a studio that’s based just outside of Seoul, South Korea.
While the action-RPG elements are sure to separate Project Rabbit from the crowd, this is far from the first video game to be directly inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. These video games have ranged from direct adaptations of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland such as the one found in Kingdom Hearts, to dark reinterpretations of Carroll’s original story like Alice: Madness Returns, to more loosely inspired games like Alicemare. Alice in Wonderland-inspired games have also taken on a variety of different gameplay styles over the last few decades, dabbling with third-person action-adventure, point-and-click, visual novel, and more.
Project Rabbit Is a Soulslike Reimagining of Alice in Wonderland
According to its Steam page, Project Rabbit is an “Extraction Soulslike Action RPG inspired by a dark fantasy reimagining of Alice in Wonderland.” Project Rabbit‘s story revolves around the ‘Abyss of Time’, a twisted fantasy world that was created when multiple dimensions collapsed into one another. This world was then sealed away by the Blood Queen, who rules over this land of undying, where the creatures residing within cannot age or die.

Gameplay-wise, Project Rabbit appears to offer a traditional Soulslike experience. Players will use “dodges, parries, and a variety of combat skills” to conquer the creatures slowly being consumed by madness. Players will also forge their own unique playstyle through experimentation, with the game said to offer “countless combinations of weapons, equipment, and skills.”
Unlike many other Soulslikes, however, Project Rabbit will feature an extraction shooter-like system, whereby players will find valuable loot through gameplay and will need to extract safely back to a home base in order to keep the items they’ve found. It’s also stated that players will be able to explore the Abyss of Time “alone, or alongside your allies,” though it’s currently unclear if this is referring to AI companions or some kind of co-op system. There’s no official word yet on when Project Rabbit might release.
Released in September 2023, Lies of P shares some key similarities with the upcoming Project Rabbit. Much like Project Rabbit, Lies of P revolves around a dark reimagining of a classic literary children’s character, Pinocchio. And much like Project Rabbit, Lies of P puts Soulslike mechanics at the heart of its gameplay. Lies of P‘s developers, Neowiz and Round8, are also based in South Korea.
