Bethesda Leaker Gives Updates on Fallout Remasters and Elder Scrolls 6 Release Dates

A well-known Xbox Game Studios insider has provided an update on The Elder Scrolls 6 and Bethesda‘s long-rumored Fallout remasters. The new claims suggest TES 6 could arrive between the two Fallout remasters, although its release now appears to be farther off than some Bethesda fans may have expected.

On June 11, 2026, the only trailer for the sixth mainline The Elder Scrolls game will turn eight years old. Although Bethesda maintains that the project is progressing well, some vocal fans have grown increasingly frustrated by the lack of substantial TES 6 updates. That situation largely stems from the game being announced roughly half a decade before it entered active production in 2023, after Starfield‘s release. Meanwhile, Bethesda has long been rumored to be pursuing remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, based on a combination of leaks and insider reports. However, modernized versions of the two post-apocalyptic open-world RPGs have not yet been officially announced.

Bethesda’s First Fallout Remake/Remaster Possibly Coming in 2027

Microsoft insider Jez Corden provided an update on all of those projects in the latest episode of The Xbox Two Podcast. “I don’t know how true this is, but one thing I heard was that the Fallout remasters are probably a little bit further off than people think,” Corden said around the 02:02:13 mark of the May 22 episode. He later clarified that he does not expect either of the Fallout remasters to hit the market before 2027, when he expects to see one of them. Considering a leaked internal product roadmap pointed to the existence of a Fallout 3 remaster as far back as 2023, that seems to be the likelier candidate for a 2027 release, whereas a modernized version of New Vegas may arrive later.

Discussing the next Elder Scrolls game in the same episode, Corden said the project is still “quite far away” from completion. Elaborating on that claim, he estimated that the long-awaited open-world RPG is most likely to release one or two years after the first Fallout remaster, i.e., 2028 or 2029. The claim is consistent with Bethesda’s recent comments, including a March 2026 interview in which executive producer Todd Howard asked fans to pretend TES 6 had not been announced, suggesting the game was still not ready to be shown at the time. Corden’s estimate also broadly lines up with contemporary AAA development cycles, which now commonly stretch to around five years. For reference, TES 6 reportedly entered full production in late 2023.

Potential Bethesda RPG Release Roadmap for the Rest of the Decade

  • 2027: Fallout 3 remaster
  • 2028–2029: The Elder Scrolls 6
  • 2029–2030: Fallout: New Vegas remaster

Corden did not present his launch window estimates as leaks, but as educated guesses based on what he has learned about Bethesda’s current projects. The two Fallout remasters are believed to be handled externally, possibly by Oblivion Remastered developer Virtuos, based on prior reporting. If Corden’s broad estimates prove correct, a modernized Fallout: New Vegas re-release may not arrive before the next decade.

A 2030 release for the Fallout: New Vegas remaster would make sense if Bethesda wanted to align it with the game’s 20th anniversary. However, the company has not been especially sentimental about anniversary timing with similar projects, as Oblivion Remastered was shadow-dropped shortly after the original game’s 19th anniversary. Corden is also predicting that the Fallout 3 remaster will arrive roughly 19 years after the original RPG. If that pattern holds, the apparent two-year remaster cadence would point to the modernized version of New Vegas arriving in 2029 rather than 2030.
