The wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to hopefully come to a close in November. Rockstar’s hit crime series has maintained its presence as one of the biggest franchises in the gaming industry, but Grand Theft Auto 6 feels like a completely different beast. The anticipation has eager gamers scanning and analyzing every frame of the two released trailers, and some have even been using astrology to craft theories about when Trailer 3 will arrive.
It’s been a wild years-long ride, and the next update is hopefully waiting around the corner. Leaks and GTA 6 go together like peanut butter and jelly at this point, but the constant influx of these claims and rumors hasn’t kept them from igniting extra doses of hype. A recent leak even claims that the new GTA 6 trailer could arrive on May 26, but there have been plenty of predictions in the past that have turned out false. Regardless of when the trailer hits the internet, there will hopefully be more insight into protagonist Jason Duval. He looks to be a compelling character, but something isn’t adding up.
It’s a good thing Grand Theft Auto 6 didn’t release in May
With May now in full swing, it has become abundantly clear that Rockstar Games was right to move Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date to November.
Jason Duval’s Nice Guy Persona Almost Feels a Little Too Good to Be True in GTA 6’s Cutthroat Crime World
If the trailers have made anything clear, it’s that the story revolving around GTA 6 main characters Jason and Lucia is going to be filled with crime, action, romance, and a lot of drama. Both lead protagonists are shrouded in mystery at the moment, but Rockstar has revealed a little bit about each of them on the official company website. Lucia’s motivations are more clear, but Jason’s backstory has an extra edge of mystery that feels a little suspicious.
Jason grew up around grifters and crooks. After a stint in the Army trying to shake off his troubled teens, he found himself in the Keys doing what he knows best: working for local drug runners. It might be time to try something new.
Meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him. Jason knows how he’d like it to turn out, but right now, it’s hard to tell.

Easy (5)Medium (7)Hard (10)
The small snippet explaining his past is a lot shorter than the insight Rockstar gives into Lucia on the website. Such little information seems deliberate. It could simply be the GTA 6 theory paranoia creeping in, but there has already been plenty of speculation about whether Jason is actually who he presents himself to be.
GTA 6’s Undercover Cop Theory
This has been one of the longest running theories about GTA 6‘s story. Many gamers think that Jason could actually be a cop in disguise. His work for local drug runners could turn out to be undercover recon. Also, a lot of military veterans end up transitioning to the police force after they leave service, so this theory definitely isn’t that far of a stretch. Plenty of fitting puzzle pieces are there, but there isn’t any way to know for sure until the game is actually here.
If GTA 6‘s Jason cop theory turns out to be true, though, it would definitely be on brand for Rockstar. The developer has shown with its past games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA San Andreas that its team is great at telling stories about betrayal. A scenario where Jason gets too close to Lucia and has to break her heart by revealing his true identity sounds like a pretty plausible outcome for the game’s main story.
Even if He Isn’t a Cop, Jason Might Be Hiding a Dark Secret
It’s not impossible for GTA protagonists to be good guys in a world of crime. Jason’s “chill guy next door” vibe feels a little bit more like a fake persona than an actual reflection of his character, though. Rockstar’s official backstory already confirmed that he joined the Army to try and escape his “troubled teens.” After that, he moved to the Leonida Keys. Moving to such a remote area of GTA 6‘s map makes it sound like he’s trying to run away from something or someone. Of course, that “someone” could ultimately be himself, but then that raises questions about what he’s done in the past that warrants such a drastic change of scenery.
There is a good possibility that Jason is trying to fight a darker personality that’s hiding inside of him. A life defined by a troubled past, the potential for him to have PTSD from his time in the Army, and being surrounded by drug runners is already a risky combo. Throwing Lucia’s ambition and willingness to succeed by any means necessary while bringing Jason along practically feels like setting a bomb. The big mystery is what’s going to be the situation that finally makes it explode. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed that this will actually be part of Jason’s story in GTA 6, but the silence surrounding the game means that anything is possible right now.
Jason and Lucia’s Fates Are Just a Few of GTA 6’s Many Mysteries
Since the duo is inspired by Bonnie and Clyde, that could mean some unfortunate outcomes are in store for Jason and Lucia. Even if the two don’t go down together in a blaze of gunfire like the real-life outlaws did, it feels like the duo is being set up for tragedy. Whether Jason or Lucia betray each other or one of the protagonists ends up dying or getting arrested, GTA 6 has the chance to be one of the franchise’s most compelling stories yet. Many are hoping for a blend of GTA 5‘s over-the-top action mixed with Red Dead Redemption 2‘s storytelling. If that’s the case, then Jason and Lucia in GTA 6 are bound to tug at the heartstrings.
At the moment, Rockstar is keeping quiet about when the next GTA 6 update will arrive. The internet rumor mill is going to be claiming a lot of things in the next few months, so it’s important to keep expectations in check. Leaks don’t hold anything concrete. All that’s known is that everything will be revealed on November 19. That is, as long as there isn’t another delay.
