Forza Horizon 6 players are calling a Drivatar named Bowie Knife99 the “true villain” of the game, with some even describing its appearance as an AI-gone-rogue situation. For those unfamiliar, Drivatars in Forza Horizon 6 are computer-controlled racers or opponents that appear across different parts of the game.

What has made Bowie Knife99 stand out from the game’s other NPCs, however, is its peculiar behavior. The AI is reportedly “extra villainous,” often ramming into players’ cars for no reason or seemingly breaking in-game physics limits to win races. At first, some people wondered whether Bowie Knife99 might actually be a real player or even a member of the Forza Horizon 6 development team. However, it is now widely accepted that the infamous Bowie Knife99 is simply an unusually aggressive AI.

As a joke, the official Xbox UK account on Twitter actually mentioned Forza Horizon 6‘s Bowie Knife99. The post reads, “Happy Bank Holiday Monday to everyone except Bowie Knife99.” Under the post, fans have shared their own experiences of running into the infamous Drivatar, with some also bringing up other vicious NPCs like FinalVance. What many of those mentions have in common, however, is that players seem to admire Bowie Knife99’s impact on Forza Horizon 6‘s gameplay.

That is not to say Bowie Knife99 does not have its share of critics. Some players believe the AI is imbalanced and hurts immersion in Forza Horizon 6. In fact, developer Playground Games has already acknowledged complaints about the game’s Drivatars without specifically mentioning Bowie Knife99. On May 22, the team published a blog post stating, “We’ve heard from you that sometimes our AI opponents are too fast to compete with, especially at higher difficulty levels.” The post also noted that an investigation is ongoing to gather more data, meaning players will need to wait for further updates. Still, it seems likely that a future Forza Horizon 6 patch will adjust AI balance to address these concerns.

However, those who have grown somewhat fond of the rogue Drivatars see potential in them. They argue that the frenzy surrounding Bowie Knife99 shows the game could actually benefit from having villains in its campaign, or at least more NPC opponents with unique personalities and distinct driving styles. Some players have even pointed to classic racing games like FlatOut 2 as examples of how opponent drivers can be given more depth through distinct character traits and personalities. However, it remains to be seen whether Playground Games will ever consider adding such features to the franchise.
