Minecraft could soon launch on another console platform in the coming days, according to a recently discovered rating post by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). Although Mojang has not publicly commented on any potential Minecraft ports as of this writing, the appearance of this new ESRB rating could signal that a platform launch is imminent.
The rating board discovery came just weeks after Mojang launched the Tiny Takeover game drop update. The Tiny Takeover update added baby forms of around 40 in-game mobs. The update is part of Minecraft‘s ongoing focus on compact game drop updates that are released every three to four months on average. Following the launch of Tiny Takeover, Minecraft product manager Anna Lundgren stated that game drops are more sustainable for Mojang’s development teams in the long run.

Minecraft Could Be Headed to Nintendo Switch 2 Soon
Following the May 29 Minecraft Live presentation, some keen-eyed Minecraft players spotted a new rating post by the ESRB that stated the popular sandbox game was heading to a new console. The ESRB rating for Minecraft in question claimed that it was heading to Nintendo Switch 2. Minecraft for Switch 2 was rated E10+ for Everyone 10+ by the ESRB for fantasy violence, user interactions, and in-game purchases. The rating described what players usually experience in Minecraft, with combat involving swords and magic staffs to fend off skeletons, zombies, and other enemies by striking them down. The ESRB’s E10+ rating is consistent with Minecraft‘s previous ports to other platforms, such as Xbox and PlayStation consoles. However, no release date information was revealed by the ESRB listing for Minecraft‘s Switch 2 port. Mojang has also not confirmed publicly about Minecraft’s launch on Switch 2, so fans must wait for more information.

However, fans need not wait to play Minecraft on Switch 2. Currently, Minecraft is playable via backward compatibility with the original Nintendo Switch port, which launched in June 2018. Although some Nintendo Switch titles have had compatibility issues when played on a Switch 2 console, Minecraft‘s Switch port runs on Switch 2 without any major issues due to the latter console’s improved hardware. Minecraft‘s Switch version also includes exclusive access to the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack at no additional cost, which features 15 tracks and 40 player skins inspired by Nintendo’s iconic franchise. Physical and digital versions of Minecraft on Nintendo Switch are available for $29.99 at the Nintendo Store and various retailers.
It is also unclear which exclusive features a Switch 2 port of Minecraft could have as a selling point. Given that the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers have a built-in mouse mode, it is plausible that Minecraft could utilize it in some capacity. However, it remains to be seen what Mojang’s plans are for Minecraft on Switch 2.

Given that Summer Game Fest starts on June 5, along with the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, it is possible that Minecraft‘s potential Switch 2 port could be announced in the coming days. Regardless, fans may not have to wait much longer to experience a native version of Minecraft running on the Switch 2.
