Developer Creative Assembly has released the first official teaser for the sequel to Alien: Isolation, the acclaimed 2014 survival horror game based on the Alien film franchise. Fans of the original have waited nearly 12 years for a follow-up, and the long gap alone has made the announcement feel especially significant. But based on what’s been unveiled about Alien: Isolation 2 so far, the wait might actually pay off.
Alien: Isolation is considered by many to be one of the best first-person survival horror games of its era. On review aggregator OpenCritic, it holds an average critic score of 81, with user scores sitting at a similar level. In 2015, the game earned multiple nominations at both The Game Awards and the BAFTA Awards, ultimately winning the BAFTA for Audio Achievement.

Alien: Isolation 2 Has a Brand-New Story
The first trailer for Alien: Isolation 2 was revealed during June’s Summer Game Fest, where it drew an enthusiastic reaction from the live audience. Opening with glimpses of the sequel’s setting, the short teaser also offers the first look at the Alien series’ iconic threat, the deadly Xenomorph. According to Sega, Alien: Isolation 2 will tell a “brand-new story” with a new protagonist. That likely marks a shift away from the original game’s lead, Amanda Ripley, signaling a fresh direction for the sequel.

Alien: Isolation 2‘s new setting is described as a remote colony-planet, where players need to explore the Weyland-Yutani outpost of Kurosaki Station. Addressing the reveal, Alien: Isolation 2‘s creative director Al Hope said, “[Our] team at Creative Assembly has been working hard to create a new, evolved Isolation experience continuing the legacy of the Alien franchise, making the eponymous killer smarter, the environment harsher and the chance of survival slimmer.”
As for gameplay, not much has been officially confirmed, but the Motion Tracker, a key element of the first game, has already featured prominently in the sequel’s marketing. That suggests it will likely continue to center on the same tense hide-and-seek survival mechanics seen in the original Alien: Isolation. One notable change from the previous installment may be the possibility of exploring the planet’s surface. The official press release states, “Players will endure the elements as they navigate the planet’s surface.” However, these remain speculations for now, and fans will have to wait for further official announcements to learn more.
Alien: Isolation 2 is planned for release on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Players can currently wishlist the upcoming AAA game across all platforms, though it is not yet available to wishlist on the Switch 2. Additionally, no release window has been confirmed so far. For those who have not played the original Alien: Isolation, now may be a good time to pick it up. The game is currently discounted by around 70% on Steam and the PlayStation Store, bringing its price down to about $10 USD. But fans should note that the special promotion is time-limited and runs only until June 11.
