Xbox kicked off its big Xbox Summer Game Fest Showcase with an extended look at gameplay for Gears of War: E-Day, the next mainline game in the cover shooter series. It’s out this October exclusively on Xbox and PC.
In the new gameplay footage, we see Marcus and Dom fighting through city streets and store interiors against the Locust as they first began their attack on the planet. During the fighting, we see Gears staples, like active reloads and retro lancers.
Later, the gameplay shows some very classic Gears of War combat, including Marcus fighting off iconic enemies in his old Gears suit. Or I guess it’s new here as it’s a prequel.
Interestingly, after the trailer, new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma appeared on camera to confirm that Gears of War will be a console exclusive, despite previous leaks indicating a PS5 port. Those seem to be wrong, or perhaps suggest that Xbox has changed course.
Gears of War: E-Day is set to arrive on Xbox Series X/S and PC and nothing else on October 6.
