PC Game with Dead Space Vibes Is Free to Keep for a Limited Time

PC Game with Dead Space Vibes Is Free to Keep for a Limited Time

An indie horror game with serious Dead Space vibes called Dire Echo is free to claim for a limited time for PC users with an Itch.io account. PC gamers always have plenty of free-to-play horror games to choose from. However, this promotion lets them grab a title with “Mostly Positive” Steam reviews that normally sells for $5.99 USD.

Fans of sci-fi horror games should note that Dire Echo‘s giveaway is not part of Steam’s regular free-to-keep promotions. Instead, indie developer TrueGames is offering the game directly to players. Interestingly, Dire Echo launched on June 5, 2026, making it a brand-new release that fans can add to their libraries at no cost.

Steam Users Can Claim Co-Op Game for Free Before It’s Delisted

PC users looking to expand their Steam library need to act fast, as they can currently claim a co-op game completely free of charge.

Save 100% on Dire Echo via Itch.io

  1. Create or log in to a free Itch.io account
  2. Visit the Dire Echo promotion page on Itch.io
  3. Click “No thanks, just take me to downloads” when the donation screen pops up
  4. Claim and download Dire Echo with a 100% discount

As of this writing, developer TrueGames has not disclosed when Dire Echo‘s free-to-keep promotion will end. As a result, fans of games with Dead Space vibes may want to claim it sooner rather than later to avoid missing out.

Much like the opening of Dead Space, Dire Echo follows a protagonist sent to investigate a space station that has gone radio silent. Called Echo-7, the station features an eerie, claustrophobic design that should feel familiar to fans of the early Dead Space games. An extraterrestrial creature also stalks the player throughout the experience, bringing comparisons to Alien: Isolation. However, Dire Echo does not lean as heavily into the hide-and-seek gameplay mechanics that defined that game.

Windows 10 (64-bit)

CPU

Intel Core i5-4460 | AMD Ryzen

RAM

8 GB

GPU

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD

As for gameplay, Dire Echo is mostly a walking simulation game with simple puzzles that add to the overall tension. There is no combat, and players follow a linear path as a spaceship captain tasked with exploring a terrifying abandoned space station. Most of the time, players move from point A to point B while interacting with wall-mounted buttons to unlock new paths. An alien-like creature also appears throughout the game, delivering frequent jump scares and discouraging progress. Toward the end, there are some minor parkour sections, but the experience mainly revolves around walking, running, and observing environments with a flashlight.

Dire Echo features a sci-fi cosmic horror story centered on a secret government project called the D.I.R.E. program, also known as the Deep Interdimensional Resonance Engine. The program appears to focus on initiating contact with entities from other dimensions, an effort that ultimately leads to a catastrophic outcome. Players are left to piece together what happened by collecting and listening to audio logs scattered throughout the space station. Dire Echo is also a relatively short PC game, with a campaign that takes around an hour to complete, depending on how quickly players solve its puzzles.

Gamers looking for more free PC games can also download Tell Me Why on Steam, which is free to keep until the end of June. There is also a retro-style game called Gravity Circuit on Steam that will be free to claim until June 14. The Epic Games Store’s weekly free offerings are also available, with the current selection including Rogue Waters and Songs of Conquest.
