Tomaszkiewicz began his journey with the franchise as a writer on the second Witcher game before stepping into the director role for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

These days, Tomaszkiewicz is busy working on his upcoming game, The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world RPG that many fans believe has The Witcher vibes. Recently, however, when asked about the exciting news of a new Wild Hunt expansion on the horizon, he responded with a witty yet genuine remark.

“I only have one request… how to say it politely… to do it good,” Tomaszkiewicz said in an interview with GamesRadar+. The former director explained that after spending so much time working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its expansions, revisiting the game has been difficult for him. However, he added that he plans to experience the new expansion from a different perspective. “I will play it, first time as a player,” he said.

Tomaszkiewicz has every reason to be protective of The Witcher 3‘s legacy. The game is widely regarded as one of the greatest open-world RPGs ever made, and its expansions are held in similarly high regard. According to Steam250 data, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine remains one of the highest-rated DLCs on PC, while Hearts of Stone currently ranks fifth. It’s also worth remembering that Tomaszkiewicz directed both the base game and its acclaimed expansions. And given his deep involvement in shaping The Witcher 3‘s success, it’s easy to understand why he wants the new development team to “do it good.”

While Tomaszkiewicz’s concerns are understandable, fans appear to have little reason to worry. According to CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s upcoming expansion is being co-developed with Fool’s Theory, a studio made up of former CD Projekt Red developers who worked on previous Witcher games and have firsthand experience with everything from level design philosophy to storytelling. Fool’s Theory is also leading the development of the remake of the original Witcher game, further proving the studio’s connection to the franchise and familiarity with its foundations.

CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that the highly anticipated expansion is scheduled to launch in 2027, though an exact release date has yet to be announced. Fortunately, the studio has promised to share more details about Songs of the Past before the end of summer 2026, meaning fans may not have to wait much longer to get their first real look at what the expansion has in store.

As for Tomaszkiewicz’s The Blood of Dawnwalker, it is described as an open-world RPG with a vampirism theme, designed to tell a gripping story across multiple eras, starting in a medieval setting. Tomaszkiewicz’s independent studio, Rebel Wolves, plans to release The Blood of Dawnwalker on September 3, 2026, meaning fans of RPGs with The Witcher-like vibes will not have to wait long for that game either.
