A LEGO fan manages to turn the 3-in-1 Playful Puppy set into two capybaras and also shares the instructions to replicate the build for free. One of the best perks of collecting LEGO is that fans can build whatever they want and stray from the original set’s instructions as much as they like. LEGO MOC (My Own Creation) became even more popular with the addition of LEGO Ideas, which are sets based on ideas from community members, made into actual builds available on store shelves.
2026 has been a big year for LEGO so far, with the new LEGO Pokemon sets coming on August 1 and the previous wave in February, while also releasing the highly anticipated Minas Tirith set for The Lord of the Rings. On top of that, the Sagrada Familia LEGO set will be the largest ever, at 12,060 pieces, and it’s coming out this November. Still, the smaller 3-in-1 Creator sets remain extremely popular for their versatility and price point, as seen with the 31382 Playful Puppy set, which can be a puppy, a squirrel, or a duck.

Custom LEGO Capybaras Build From 3-in-1 Playful Puppy Set
Reddit user and LEGO fan joffre_Bricks, a renowned custom builder in the community, shared a post showcasing their latest build: two capybaras from the 31382 Playful Puppy set, which was part of LEGO’s January 2026 releases. The capybaras are very detailed and look extremely natural, as if they were part of the 3-in-1 set all along. The creator also used the blue food or water bowl for the puppy as a pool for the smaller capybara, which is a nice touch. Similarly, the puppy’s collar was transformed into a small plant to accompany the custom build.

In a comment on the post, joffre_Bricks explained that their inspiration came from a capybara plush they won at a local market, so they tried to replicate it using the Playful Puppy LEGO set. Also, the instructions for the custom capybara build are completely free on Rebrickable, where the user goes by Joffre Bricks. This is not very common, as many creators like to make their custom instructions paid to support their work. An example is the extremely talented builder Minute_Food_2881, who recently transformed the LEGO Millennium Falcon set into Star Trek‘s USS Defiant ship with no extra pieces.
The 3-in-1 Creator sets are made in a way that allows fans to easily assemble and disassemble them to recreate all three options as they please. For this reason, it’s also natural to think of possible alternate builds to make from scratch with those pieces. An example is how a LEGO fan transformed the 3-in-1 Sea Animals set into Pokemon‘s Dratini with no extra pieces, managing to get proportions and details perfectly right.

The beauty of LEGO is exactly that — to make what one wants, granted they have the right bricks and lots of imagination for it. It’s not uncommon for fans to share their creations on social media, such as a LEGO MOC of LotR‘s Moria, a playable board game, or maybe a mythical creature from folklore. Joffre Bricks’ capybara build embodies that spirit, and it’s great to have free instructions for capybara enthusiasts.
