Adrian has been writing, critiquing, and thinking about games since he first picked up an N64 controller many years ago. These days he writes reviews, news, and features for Game Rant and believes games should be held to the same artistic standards as books, movies, and television shows. When he’s not writing for Game Rant, Adrian writes even more reviews for Sirus Gaming and likes to get nerdy about tech and retro games at HackerNoon. Outside the gaming world, he spends plenty of time enjoying movies or listening to every genre of music under the sun. Follow him on Twitter for nonsense tweets likely related to Dragon Ball Z, or check out Breadhouse Records for some tunes.

While originally expected to release at the tail end of September 2026, Onimusha: Way of the Sword may have just pushed up its release date if recent retail listings are to be believed. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the return of Capcom’s 20-year-old classic hack-and-slash franchise, and it might just be getting ahead of a crazy fall release schedule to get its time in the sun.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release Date Moved to Sept. 4th. Instead of September 25th. Regular Editions Will Release Then But not the Steelbook Edition. Pre-Order: PNP Games. https://ow.ly/ev9050ZesTj VGP. https://ow.ly/eSjP50ZesTl Best Buy. https://ow.ly/bjOO50ZesTg

As spotted by CAG on BlueSky, it seems like Canadian Retailer PNP Games has moved Onimusha: Way of the Sword‘s release date from September 25, 2026, to September 4 with seemingly no explanation. Other retailers like Best Buy, VGP, and GameStop still have Onimusha slated for a September 25 release, so it could be that PNP is ahead of everyone else, or that it was simply done in error. PNP’s listing has been up for two days at the time of writing, and it still hasn’t changed the release date back to September 25. As of now, Capcom has not made any official announcement regarding Way of the Sword‘s release date, but that doesn’t mean Capcom hasn’t shifted release dates to avoid clashing with major releases before.
