Pokemon GO has rolled out a new player-versus-player battle update that’s rebuilt the core battle system. Originally announced and previewed back in February 2026, Pokemon GO players are now able to access the new version effective immediately.

New Free Game is Like Pokemon GO, But With Real Cats
A new game arrives for mobile devices that combines Pokemon GO-like gameplay with real cats, letting players find and ‘catch’ real kitties.
Pokemon GO Rolls Out New PvP System
Pokemon GO has announced that the new PvP update is out now. The developer previously detailed how the Pokemon GO PvP update would address issues like lag due to connection problems, how individual turns and their choices made would impact fights, and other changes to help battles behave more consistently. Going forward, all cups in GO Battle League: Forever Forward will use the new PvP system. Due to the changes made, Mimikyu is now usable in the GO Battle League. However, since the PvP system is new, those who have been prepping for the Pokemon World Championships will be able to stick with the old PvP system throughout the Competitors Cup. The old PvP system will be completely discontinued at the conclusion of the Pokemon World Championships, on August 30, 2026.
