Some Pokemon GO players have discovered a new quick appraise feature that should make it faster to appraise Pokemon in the game. Since Pokemon GO‘s release in 2016, the game’s developers have added a number of different features in an effort to make the game more enjoyable for both older players and newcomers. Sometimes these features are released in the game at the same time to all players, while others are given a slower roll out.
Pokemon GO features an appraisal system, which helps the player evaluate each Pokemon’s Individual Ratings (IVs). Appraisals help players determine if a Pokemon will be useful in battles or if it might be too weak. The appraisals are handled by Pokemon GO‘s three team leaders, who tell players whether the Pokemon will find much success. This also helps players determine if it’s worth keeping a Pokemon or if they should transfer it.
Pokemon GO Makes Appraisals Faster
On Reddit, users have shared images and videos of a new quick appraise button, which has apparently been added for some Pokemon GO players. This button allows players to skip a button press, jumping into the appraisal without having to bring up the menu first. It’s possible that the button will be rolled out to all players during Pokemon GO‘s upcoming Twilight Trails season, but nothing has been confirmed by the developers at this time.

Casual players likely won’t get much out of the quick appraise button, but it should be beneficial for those who put more time and effort into the game. A Pokemon with better IVs can make all the difference in the GO Battle League and in some of the tougher Raid battles. Catching or hatching a Pokemon with perfect IVs can be a pretty big deal, and having a designated button could even serve as a visual reminder for players so they don’t accidentally transfer a Pokemon without first determining its positives or negatives.

So far, reception to the new feature seems mostly positive. There are lots of elements of Pokemon GO that players would like to see sped up, and appraisals can definitely get tedious at times. Some players have suggested that the appraisal screen could be eliminated altogether by including the Pokemon’s IVs on their page with the rest of their information. Scopely Explore might consider doing that in the future, but players will have to settle for one less screen tap in the meantime.
The addition of the appraise button is just one new feature in the game. Pokemon GO recently added the Explorer Gadget, which serves a similar role to physical devices like the Pokemon GO Plus+. The in-game feature has limitations that the physical devices don’t, but it does help players catch Pokemon and spin PokeStops when it’s not convenient to do so in the actual game. More than 10 years after Pokemon GO‘s initial release, it seems the developers are looking for a lot of new ways to make the game more enjoyable for players.
