GTA 6 Physical Version Doesn't Have a Disc

Rockstar Games has confirmed that physical copies of Grand Theft Auto 6 will not include a disc inside the plastic case. By the time GTA 6 is released, more than 13 years will have passed since the last game in the series. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the sequel ever since, and there’s been an unprecedented level of hype as a result.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will release November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game has been delayed several times over the years, but it seems the long wait is finally nearing an end. Barring any last-minute delays, it seems Rockstar is committed to getting the game out on that date. It remains to be seen whether the developer can offer a product that manages to deliver on the years of hype, but fans won’t have to wait long to find out for themselves.

There’s Nothing Physical About GTA 6’s Physical Release

GTA 6‘s price has been revealed by Rockstar, with a base game that will be available for $79.99 and an ultimate edition that will cost $99.99. In the announcement, it was revealed that both versions of the game will come with a download code that must be redeemed on either the PlayStation or Microsoft Store. That means there will be no disc to insert, so the only difference between the physical and digital versions will be the plastic case.

The lack of a true physical release for GTA 6 will have an impact on some people. There are also a lot of physical media collectors that simply like having a tangible copy of their games. For those that don’t mind digital games, this shouldn’t make too much of a difference. GTA fans are incredibly passionate about the series, and it’s unlikely that many people are already thinking about getting rid of their copy before they’ve even bought it.

The lack of a true physical version could be a bigger deal for more casual fans of the series. At $79.99, GTA 6 is a bigger commitment than many other video games sold at retail. For those that have a smaller amount to spend this year, $80 for a code in a box might be enough to get them to buy a game like Marvel’s Wolverine instead.

GTA 5 is one of the best-selling video games of all-time, which means expectations are going to be very high for the sequel. Strauss Zelnick is “terrified” about GTA 6 meeting expectations, and the Take-Two CEO isn’t the only one curious to see whether the game can deliver in that regard. This is arguably one of the biggest releases the video game industry will ever see, but some fans can’t be blamed for feeling a little disappointed that they won’t have a real physical release to put on the shelf alongside the rest of the series.
