The Going Rogue Bundle is a fantastic set of games that should definitely satiate any rogue-like cravings that fans may have. The standout game in this bundle has to be the unique Rogue Legacy from Cellar Door Games, in which players can control a family of characters and their descendants, exploring new, weird traits with every run as characters die and players take up the role of their successor. Rogue Legacy is also often cited as one of the toughest rogue-likes in the genre. The game currently holds a score of 85 on Metacritic, and it should be a great introduction to the series before players try Rogue Legacy 2, which currently sits at a higher 88 score on Metacritic.
Otherwise, the Humble Going Rogue Bundle is filled with some great pick-ups after players are done with Rogue Legacy. Turn-based strategy fans might enjoy Brutal Orchestra for its demon-esque twist on the genre, while Nightmare Reaper and Moros Protocol may cater more to shooter fans who want some procedural generation to go with tight shooting mechanics. Rounding out the bundle, None Shall Intrude brings a card-based spin to roguelikes, and UnderMine combines mining, combat, and dungeon crawling for what user reviews claim is an addictive time. While some of these are a bit old, they can still stand toe-to-toe with newer roguelike games.
Rogue-like games continue to be huge hits with fans, and this bundle is a great introduction to what makes the genre so good. The Going Rogue Bundle delivers a good, diverse selection of games, ranging from strategy, shooters, cards, and side-scrollers, to give new fans a good sense of what they want from the genre. Once players are ready to check out some of the heaviest hitters in the roguelike space, they can check out Hades 2 or Housemarque’s Saros to see what the genre can do in the AAA space.
