Love And Deepspace Devs Cancel Hot Werewolf After Fan Backlash

Love And Deepspace Devs Cancel Hot Werewolf After Fan Backlash

The Love and Deepspace fandom has been tearing itself apart ever since the developers of the sweet and smutty gacha game revealed the newest love interest, the werewolf Valko. There are factions of fans who love him and those who absolutely hate him, and what they feel he represents, and they have not been shy about sharing their feelings with the game’s developers. The negative response to his recent reveal has apparently gotten so bad that the developers have announced they’re canceling him altogether ahead of his previously planned July 9 debut.

“We have decided to cancel both the launch and any further development of the new love interest,” the Love and Deepspace developers revealed on X on Tuesday. “We also commit that no additional love interests will be introduced in future content plans.”

A Letter to All Players

Dear Miss Hunters,

We sincerely apologize for reaching out once again. Over the past several days, our team has been closely following your conversations and feedback across all platforms. For the issues that have surfaced since the announcement of… pic.twitter.com/PsjNbKyTsB

If it seems kind of contradictory for the developers of a gacha game based on romancing different kinds of hot men to announce they’re not adding any more hot men for the duration of the game, you’d be correct. However, this seeming overcorrection on the part of the developers comes after a week of very loud online complaints levied against them by fans regarding Valko and what they feel he represents. The fans who hate Valko don’t just hate him because he’s kinda uggo (unless werewolves are your thing), they hate him because they feel his addition comes at the expense of developing the other established love interests and other quality of life updates they think the game needs.

In a response to Valko’s initial reveal post, one player begged the developers to “Listen to your players,” and add more ways to acquire premium resources and add more content to the main storyline, which generally sums up what the anti-Valko players want.

If this update doesnt come with improvements to farm resources, diamonds and a better release of mmain story chapters, it will be so clear you just want whales in the game instead of improving the game. Please listen to your players

While this was one of the kinder ways a fan expressed their displeasure with Valko, others were less kind. Reports aggregated from Chinese social media on Reddit claim that people left cow shit at the game’s headquarters. The reports also said that the game has lost over 1 million players in the days since Valko’s reveal. People are losing their minds over some pixels, and you can tell that the developers have taken this extraordinary response seriously from the rest of what they had to say in their cancellation post.

They promised to still add the content that was to come with Valko’s update, which included a new addition to the game’s (quite good) photo mode. They also heard fans’ complaints about a lack of content for the existing love interests. “Going forward, the entire team will focus on further developing the stories and long-term companionship experiences of our five existing love interests,” they said in the post. And also, in what seems to be an attempt to satisfy the really pissed-off fans, some of whom have taken to sending turds to the developers’ headquarters, they’re giving away 30 days’ worth of premium freebies.

But this appeasement isn’t going to work, because in canceling Valko, they’ve pissed off a chunk of the fandom that actually liked him. The Love and Deepspace Discord is flooded with “Bring Back Valko” posts, and under the post announcing his cancellation are tons of messages that echo the sentiment.

“Please don’t cancel him Infold this is so unfair,” read one fan’s response. But the rest of it is way more prescient and indicative of why this response from the developers is an incredibly bad idea. “This sets a precedent with your game that if people are mean enough, bully other fans, and just generally throw a large enough tantrum, they can do whatever they want.”
