Roblox Reveals Improvements to In-Game Reporting Tools

Roblox Reveals Improvements to In-Game Reporting Tools

Roblox is rolling out a number of improvements and changes to the way that its in-game reporting system works. These alterations should make it easier for players to make their reports, and will also improve how the reports are handled by Roblox developers.

Keeping players safe has been a major focus at Roblox, with children being the primary demographic for the platform. Changes like limiting which age groups can communicate with one another on Roblox and adding facial age estimation features have been some of the steps the developer has taken. However, there’s arguably always room for improvement, and now Roblox is helping players to ensure that their reports are received and accurately detail what problems they’ve experienced.

Roblox Updates In-Game Report System

Roblox has announced a number of improvements to its reporting system, spanning from making the report to receiving a response as to how the feedback was handled. Making reports has been simplified with a streamlined system which automatically adapts its order of questions based upon what a player is reporting. Players can initially flag a Roblox voice chat, text chat, game, or player. From there, the game will offer certain categories when reporting, like a player’s inappropriate avatar, name, cheating, and so on. When reporting a player, for example, a player can alert Roblox of rule-breaking activities like scamming, swearing, sharing personal information, bullying, and so on. Players are then given an option to block the offending player or mute them to prevent further interactions.

Internally, Roblox has also improved the process of how reports are handled. Previously, Roblox would send each report to “the same place” which would then have to sort through and pass along the reports to the correct team for review. The new controls instead make it so that the report goes to the relevant team immediately, which should cut down on how long it takes for action to be taken. Further, Roblox will now provide notifications when action is taken following a player report, like a suspension of the offending player. Additionally, Roblox announced that it will be adding a persistent inbox for players to look at their previously submitted reports, whether they resulted in an action taken by Roblox or not.

Roblox says that its ultimate goal with this new system is to ultimately cut down on the incidents that lead players to submit reports in the first place. If successful, Roblox says that players won’t need to make reports as often, as the “most common issues” will be caught by the system and addressed quickly. Reports of less common and new problems will be fed to the system, which will learn to detect issues in-game before players have to lift a finger themselves. In theory, these changes should help to further improve safety on Roblox and interactions between players.

These changes come following numerous lawsuits against Roblox from individuals and lawmakers, who have alleged that the game doesn’t do enough to protect kids. There have also been crimes allegedly committed by some users, like in one case when a man reportedly kidnapped two underage girls after meeting them on Roblox. Criticism of safety precautions in online games haven’t been limited to Roblox, however, as the UK government has reportedly been considering taking steps to prevent children from interacting with strangers in all online games and chat platforms like Discord, and is taking action to keep kids off social media apps.
