Cyberpunk 2077 is officially crossing over with Apex Legends, bringing characters from the beloved CDPR and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime into the battle royale game, alongside a redesigned nighttime E-District map and plenty of new gameplay features. This new event begins on July 14. Of course, it’s worth noting that this event is essentially a takeover for the Wildcard mode and does not have any impact on traditional or ranked BR—Apex Legends‘ bread and butter.
That said, Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment is paying attention to how the event and its additions are introduced. Apex Legends world director Eduardo Agostini, for example, highlighted how he would love to bring back nighttime E-District (alongside nighttime modes for other maps) into typical rotation, but nothing can be announced yet. And so, it’ll be interesting to see what, if anything, is learned from this event. At large, the Cyberpunk 2077 event in Apex Legends is more than enough for new, current, or returning players, as it’s a massive and fitting overhaul.
Cyberpunk 2077: Every Ending, Ranked
Cyberpunk 2077 features a wide range of potential endings, but which of them is the best and most fulfilling end to the experience?
Cyberpunk Character Skins in Apex Legends
The new Apex Legends character skins are no doubt a big draw for many fans, as they’ll be able to play their favorite characters from the Cyberpunk world. Hopefully, some Apex Legends mains line up with fans who love that Cyberpunk character as well. Both Respawn Entertainment and CDPR worked closely in deciding which Cyberpunk character lined up with which Apex Legends character, as seen below:
- Axle x Lucy
- Sparrow x David
- Rampart x Rebecca
- Male V x Crypto
- Female V x Lifeline
- Royce x Gibraltar
- Panam x Loba
- Lizzy Wizzy x Ash
Furthermore, there is a new mythic skin for the Alternator: Skippy. Cyberpunk 2077‘s Skippy—the mouthy smartgun—is coming into Apex Legends, and yes, Skippy talks. There are entirely new voicelines for Skippy, played by the original actor, that’ll trigger based on how players use it in-game. Knocks, kills, etc., with Skippy can trigger a new voiceline, although Respawn took special care to ensure there wasn’t a lot of Skippy chiming in during Apex‘s “louder” moments.
Apex Legends’ E-District as Part of Night City
E-District was partly inspired by neon-soaked, cyberpunk dystopias like Night City, so the crossover between the two is incredibly natural. Not only is the nighttime version of E-District back, but it is covered in graffiti befitting the Cyberpunk universe, with small tweaks made to make everything feel more like Cyberpunk 2077′s Night City.

Megacorps like Arasaka have a major presence, with there also being plenty of references to Johnny Silverhand and other iconic elements from the game and anime. There’s a new skybox taken straight from the anime, with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners‘ Moon also being very obvious. Overall, it’s an impressive addition to the game, and something fans old and new should enjoy.
Apex Legends’ Cyberpunk 2077 Crossover Introduces New Gameplay Features
Cyberware is a core element of Cyberpunk 2077, and while Respawn tells me that cyberpsychosis cannot really happen in Apex because of how its technology is more mechanical in nature, it lines up with the overall theme of the current season: Overclocked. And overclocked is what these Apex Legends players become with new cyberware enhancements and the possibility of cyberpsychosis (in Wildcard). Players choose between using the Blackwall Breach, inspired by Lucy, or the Sandevistan, obviously inspired by David, but over-relying on cyberware will send players into the high-risk, high-reward gameplay status of cyberpsychosis.
- Blackwall Breach: Turns players effectively invisible, taking them into a portal world, for 3 seconds at a time.
- Sandevistan: Creates a high-speed dash that can be used consistently on the ground or twice while in the air.
Essentially, using either ability too much (in-game immunoblockers can reduce the usage gauge) can result in cyberpsychosis. Once players become a cyberpsycho, their speed is massively increased, as well as their melee damage (which becomes the only source of damage output), yet shields cannot be used or regenerated while in this state. In some ways, it reminds me of playing a shadow in Shadow Royale.

Overall, it’s shaping up to be a major event and a beautiful crossover. The last crossover event between Apex Legends and Gundam was a massive success, and it saw a surge in Apex Legends’ player counts. It seems safe to say that it could happen again, but either way, heading into and out of this event over the next few weeks is interesting to say the least.
