Bethesda has once again acknowledged the existence of The Elder Scrolls 6, offering an encouraging update about the game’s ongoing development. The developer rarely gives official updates about The Elder Scrolls 6, but this latest set of comments offers serious encouragement about the game’s potential release window.
Bethesda first announced The Elder Scrolls 6 with a cinematic trailer back at E3 2018. This was just seven years out from the release of Skyrim, and it has since been claimed by Bethesda’s Todd Howard that the decision to announce the game so early was a mistake. The long wait for the game now extends almost 15 years, and it has been the subject of countless internet memes as a result.
In a significant post discussing the future of all its major franchises, Bethesda spoke about how the development of The Elder Scrolls 6 was coming along. The developer revealed that the game is being developed on Creation Engine 3, which is described as “a shared technology platform we’ve been building since Starfield‘s launch.” According to Bethesda, this “allows our teams to support multiple projects simultaneously with new tools, rendering, and systems that define our games.”
It also reiterates that The Elder Scrolls 6 is Bethesda’s primary development focus right now, with the majority at the studio now working on the project. The developer says that “we know it’s been a very long wait for the sequel,” but ends with a very encouraging update, saying, “The next chapter is on the way. Bethesda has typically been extremely secretive about the project, but throughout 2026, there have been more comments than usual that indicate the game may not be too far away at this point. Despite the positive, vague updates from Bethesda, very little is known about the game itself. Gamers have had to tune into the rumor mill to get an idea about what to expect from the upcoming RPG, and given the secrecy around the project, it’s fair to say that all rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. One significant rumor from a while back claimed that a Bethesda developer accidentally hinted at TES 6‘s setting via a Pinterest board, which would be a strange way indeed for this to leak. Hopefully, it won’t be long now until the studio is ready to speak more openly about the game.
